Holy crap, I don't have to go to the TexAgs Rangers board, there is an actual Rangers board. Let the tears flow:

"I'm so tempted to shoot myself in a few months time considering the things that happened to me in the last 4 years."

"Houston takes the division lead the week of the Rays series, and never gives it back. The Rangers get eliminated from wildcard contention on September 25th."

"It would be shocking if they didn't get a WC. I've thought for awhile that's what would happen. Once Houston actually looked like Houston again I figured they would probably chase us down. It's easy to forget they have been the best AL team for about 5 of the last 7 years."

I haven't listened to the whole podcast, but is he saying that Dusty has changed his mind on Chas as an everyday CF compared to Spring?

No, he is saying that it is not a secret around the clubhouse that Dusty does not like Chas and has been this way for a while. He referenced the spring story as an example of how Dusty went out of his way to talk bad about Chas, which is out of character for Dusty. He did not get into details about other incidents but clearly there are multiple things that have happened and did not give any explanation as to why Dusty does not like Chas.

Ultimately this just proves Dusty is not a professional when it comes to managing and let's personal feelings get in the way of doing what is best for the team and organization. The irony is that Chas had several clutch moments in the postseason (and not only the catch) and provided much needed production at the bottom of the lineup, and without him, Dusty might not have his only ring.

I dunno wth Chas could have done to deserve this treatment. He has some of the best hitting and fielding stats on this team and comparable to some of the best in baseball at that position.

It's ridiculous that he's not our everyday CF

I think a lot of it stems from click taking away straw from him who he loved and forcing him to play chas. I remember last year on the day of the deadline, dusty went on the radio about 90 minutes before the deadline and openly advocated for trading for a center fielder. The personal vendetta just makes him look petty, but of course he doesn't care.

That probably didn't help but I think that was to make room for Meyers and Siri too. It wasn't specifically for Chas.

I'd prefer he not get traded. It would suck to run into him in the postseason on an actual good team.

The owner would have to sign off on it, and trading him would be admitting you can't sign him long term. I think we can all agree he isn't going back to the angels, but I can't see them waving the white flag.

We tried to warn them that this was imminent but they all decided to laugh and ignore us.

Eventually they'll learn (maybe).

Well game was scheduled to start at 6:40 and it was hailing before the game so I'm assuming that played a role in the terrible traffic we encountered downtown. We parked in lot B which was fine. The getting there was brutal. Traffic was moving at a rate of about a mile every twenty minutes.
Don't drive DT during rush hour. Take the train even though it has declined in cleanliness since COVID. Also, I don't recommend staying DT after the game.

I can't help but wonder how many non-rookie GMs chose not to apply for the job b/c of Dusty. Not Dusty himself, per se, but b/c Crane valued him more than the previous GM.

Yup, that's the problem with these buddy buddy type managers. Inevitably some guys wind up not being one of the buddies and it winds up creating more tension than it relieves. I doubt Dana does anything too rash with Chas because I don't think he cares for Dusty either and sees him as gone after this season anyway. He might trade him but the price will be right.

I never saw that angle starting around the 30 second mark showing Bregman in the on deck circle. That is a classic reaction.

This morning's article in The Athletic about Brown's first draft and his knack for evaluation left me wondering if Brown might actually be more inclined to trade away current prospects that weren't his picks. If he has different evals, he might think to get value for guys that he is bearish on.

Another Mock shows Astros picking Ty Floyd.

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-mock-draft-1-0/

I gotta say, I don't really love that pick at all. If we're targeting a college pitcher then I would hope someone like Dollander or Waldrep would fall to us.

Speaking of future draft picks, I completely missed the new Prospect Promotion Incentive picks that are in play starting last year. Since Julio Rodriguez was a Top 100 prospect, got a full year of MLB service, and won ROY, Seattle gets an extra first round pick.

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/complete-list-of-2023-rookies-eligible-for-prospect-promotion-incentive-draft-picks/

Quote:

The PPI initiative was introduced in 2022 as part of the latest Collective Bargaining Agreement. The program's aim is to discourage service time manipulation and incentivize teams to carry top prospects on Opening Day rosters. Players qualify by meeting three criteria:

(1) He must appear on a preseason Top 100 Prospects ranking by at least two of Baseball America, ESPN or MLB Pipeline.

(2) He must be rookie-eligible and must have fewer than 60 days of prior MLB service.

(3) He must accrue one year of MLB service as a rookie.

Last season, the Mariners broke camp with 21-year-old Julio Rodriguez as their center fielder. He won American League Rookie of the Year and, as a PPI qualifying player, he bestowed Seattle with the 29th pickand roughly $2.5 million in bonus pool moneyin the 2023 draft.

Eight other 2022 rookies have continuing PPI eligibility, which will trigger draft picks for their clubs if they place top three in MVP or Cy Young Award races prior to qualifying for arbitration. Players may net only one PPI draft pick for their clubs, and draft pick compensation is voided if the player is traded.
Hunter Brown is a PPI qualifier for the Astros this year and could garner the Astros an additional pick with either a ROY award this season or a CY award prior to arbitration. Jeremy Pena is a PPI qualifier from last year and could get the Astros an additional pick with an MVP award (not that I'm holding my breath on this one).

Drew Gilbert with his second multi-hit game in as many nights. Looks like he might be getting adjusted and heating up.

It was mentioned before but Ryan Clifford went yard again last night. This kid is the real deal and I can't wait to watch him move through the system.

Also.. Jon Singleton went 3-4 with 3 RBI and a home run last night. He's still hitting over .400 since we signed him. You just can't help but to pull for the guy. I love a good comeback story.
