With all the injuries and bad signings maybe we're only a 90-95 team but we have the pieces to make that happen. We're being managed to a 82-87 win season because the roster is not being used correctly.

I'm in the camp that thinks Dusty is still around only because he's the American League All Star manager. After that hopefully he'll get his walking papers. No other manager would still be employed at the half way point of the season with his bone headed decisions constructing a lineup, taking out effective relief pitchers after only throwing two pitches, leaving relief pitchers in too damn long after walking three in a row, and last but not least- NOT PROTECTING OR SUPPORTING YOUR PLAYERS when they argue a questionably timed balk call!!!!

However you guys want to digest it, fine. We're not playing well, haven't been playing well, and do not have the talent to overcome Dusty like in years past.

We're just not a good team and I'm sick of trying to convince myself otherwise. I hope we make the playoffs and go on a tear…

Nah. He committed 100 M in the offseason. His head got too damn big and he thought he knew better. He clearly did not.

I keep seeing posts like this when people are pissed about signings. It doesn't matter what the fans think because fans aren't responsible for making these decisions. Fans aren't privy to a lot of information about players. Fans don't know what other options there truly were.

I loved the signing tho.

The point of my comment is on the surface is the original deal, the biggest issue was the third year. No one would fathom he'd post as below .600 OPS thru June this year.


What if his bat speed dropped 20% the 2nd half. What if he was dealing with vision issues. What if he is actually older than he says. If I'm in charge of paying him 60M I find out as much as humanly possibly. I have an army of nerds that can project forward.

Maybe there were zero red flags and baseball is baseball. I can't accept it. But from our perspective we don't have the full picture.


I agree with you. It's tough to say either way, but I still don't think anyone would have expected what has transpired. I think it's tough to say signing him at all was 100% a mistake at the time.

I will say I don't think Click would have made that deal with the 3rd year. Honestly, that's the real problem I have is firing your GM and then making two big deals, of which both aren't performing.


While it's not huge deal total money wise but making the decision the pass on a lot of LF and left handed options to settle on Brantley ended up being another HUGE mistake.


Agree with you. Not addressing OF or left handed options to gamble on Brantley has been a risk that has not paid off.

Also frustrating to me Chas can't out right earn the job.


Yup. We're on the same page. Lots of frustration and blame to throw around.

Even with it, we're not doomed just yet. Lots of baseball left. Dana has semi dealt with major problems at a trade deadline before. The Braves saved their season and won a title without Acuña by added a bunch of pieces (no stars).


Do not disagree. Feels like priorities, if it were me around the trade deadline, would be LH bat, or at the very least a legit OF bat, and a reliever who can give the bullpen a little more length. If there is a legit 3 out there, ok with getting him too.


Dusty doesn't let anyone earn a job. Different line up each day, no rime or reason. Dubon should be the CF or LF and Diaz should be the C. Period. The only positions that should be rotated is one OF spot with Yordan, Chas, Julks and Meyer with Yordan in at DH or LF every day when he gets back, but 6 games out of 7 Dubon, Altuve, Bregman, Yordan, Tucker, Abreu, Tucker and Diaz should be playing at the same time

Bellinger and Gallo looked washed. Bellinger also doesn't make sense in this locker room. As you mentioned, Joc was a QO so that was never going to happen. Conforto is fine as a hitter but is a butcher in the OF. No doubt a better option than nothing from Mike but not like he's some huge difference maker. As you noted, saving the money was the right choice. If I knew Meyers would be even mediocre as a hitter I would agree with you to just save the money.

I'd also say that of the 3 big offseason moves, I was least concerned about the uncle Mike one at the time. Yes it's bad now in hindsight but it was always just a one year deal on a guy with a proven track record. Abreu was more a matter of years / age. You probably had to give 3 years but I can't help but think a real GM might have played hardball and stuck to two years. Or maybe that was one of those "bold moves" we hear Cranes wanted Click to do and Dana would have just had to suck it up. Montero was obviously the really bad decision at the time. A 31 year old RP coming off his one and only good and healthy season? Inexcusable to give him $42M.

two things from last night

1. We need to roll back the no contact with the umps, the idiots have no fear, they make the game about them, you could see the home plate ump look over his should to taunt Stanek last night, I am not saying physical violence but a finger poking in the chest, flipping their caps off, calling them limp dick mothther****ers, and kicking dirt on them should be no more than one game
2. hopefully we finally see piss and vinegar from these guy

So I guess Stanek said he was stepping off the mound. If a pitcher wants to do that, what is required to avoid a balk? The rule has always been confusing to me.

My hope and the only logical explanation for all of the WTF line up changes is Dana told Dusty to figure out what works and after all Star break, stick with it. I don't see how you continue this if we are trying to make a run in Sept. I don't think the players know where they stand or what he's thinking and that's not a recipe for success. Abreu batting clean up is a fireable offense.
