Weirdest part of all this is Dusty is going to kill Machete by not letting him have a day off.

It just makes no sense.
Dusty refuses to let Diaz catch Framber and Javier.

And the insistence on forcing Julks into the lineup is so maddening.

I wonder if that's a Framber or Javier request

He had surgery on his right flexor tendon last fall and was released. Injury problems. Sound familiar?

Hmmm…. Not sure. Who does it sound like?

Basically if you're name is not Tucker, Altuve, Alvarez, Bregman, Maldonado, Pena or Abreu then it does not matter how well you are playing. Your playing time is random.

7 lineup spots are secured, and the other 2 are just throw a dart at the wall or draw a name out of a hat

Imagine being the Rangers fans, knowing that everything had gone about as good as it could go for them, while we are having the injury plagued year from hell so far…

And you are still up by only 3.5 games

Its wild to think about all the injuries we've dealt with this year.

Brantley has yet to play
LMJ is out for the year
Garcia pitched 5 games and is out for the year
Urquidy pitched 6 games and is out for 2ish months
Altuve was out for a long stretch
Chas has spent some time on the IL
And now Yordan is out for several weeks

Yet we're still on pace to win 93 even with our star FA signing being one of the worst in baseball for the first 2 months.

And with a manger who knows less than running a team than the average TexAgs poster?

It's not that he doesn't know anything, it's that he's about as big an antithesis of how the Astros have run things as it gets.

He's Art Howe in moneyball.

I somehow still haven't seen the movie, but my memory of the book was that Art was the ultimate yes man.

In the movie, Art Howe was stubborn about lefty/righty matchups and he would never play the lineup the way the GM constructed it.

I like to imagine Dana's interview for GM came with a clear conversation that he'd only have to put up with a dumb stubborn boomer dinosaur manager for one year and then the team might actually work the way he builds it.

No I know. Also Dusty is a lot more likeable than how the character was portrayed.

I like Dusty a lot… just his lineups don't make sense sometimes. So I always think of him when I hear the line "the lineup card is mine"

The only thing realistic about that clip is that Ed Wade is a good guy....oh wait, even that's bull****.

Dusty from April - September is insanely frustrating.
But Dusty in October as an Astro has been nails.

Although his process is infuriating, I do think his regular season managing has a purpose when it comes to the playoffs.

I think Ron Washington's portrayal was even worse than PSH's Art Howe, as the actor that played Wash clearly was not coked out of his mind 24/7.

It has felt like we have been 6 or 7 back here lately. I want to say it was 2015 when we were up at the break, and then just fell off and Arlington won the division. While Arlington won the division that year, we made it as a wild card team.

What year was that?

If we can ever get our pieces back together, we can kick ass. Second half of the year is going to be where we make noise.

It was 2015. We had a red hot start. We played above our heads. About a year too early for a run. It was good learning experience for rookies like Correa & McCullers, 2nd year Springer, and even Tuve was pretty dang young. Arlington kicked our ass head to head down the stretch. I remember leaving the ballpark very frustrated late in the season.

It's flooding back to me. We would have lost every game in Sept and missed the postseason if it wasn't for Chris Carter of all people.

I'm not being argumentative with you at all, promise, but I'm just not going to excuse him that easily. He got fired from four other teams without winning a ring for a reason. Many very talented. Most with playoff flameouts.

If last year's team had been any less talented or less healthy, if Yordan or Peña had had one or two fewer hero moments, if Castellanos had squared up the 10th pitch of that game 5 AB a little better when Verlander probably got left in too long, he wouldn't get this sudden credit for knowing how to manage in the playoffs.

He's intentionally ignorant when it comes to personnel management and he always has been. This is not the game he knew in the 70s but he still insists it is.

And even IF we presume he's a different manager in the playoffs than in the regular season, it's because he had the good fortune in 2022 and 2021 to willingly toss games all year and still coast to a division title. He doesn't have that anymore but he acts like he does. And that ultimately affects your playoff odds.

OK thanks for clarifying. I feel like the roles could be reversed this year. If feel you on the Chris Carter thing. Lol.

That's not a terrible comparison. Except we were a very young team about to go on a dynasty run. The Rangers committed like 1,000,000,000 in contracts to get this going. Their window is now and maybe 1-2 additional years.
