another reason not to trade Tucker...

more than likely he has a mega-production contract year coming up in 2024 or 2025

that's how it usually works. See Carlos in 2021

Ohtani-san hits his 2nd bomb of the game to put the Angels up 7-5 over Arlington in the top of the 12th.

Helping us indirectly before he comes over in the trade for Chas and Whitley.

So if you're the Angels how far back out of the playoffs do you have to be to not trade Ohtani at the deadline?

They're only 1.5 GB of the second WC.

The horns just lost a game in the worst possible way. Fly ball found the triangle of death and Stanford walked it off

Glad the sips lost but yeah I feel bad for the outfielder. He looked devastated.

I couldnt imagine how mad I'd be if we got walked off in a playoff game like that

It's the sips. **** them and the horse they rode in on. There is no worst possible way for them to lose.

Did you see his throw from RF in the 8th, gunning out the guy at third?

Very happy they lost. A college World Series of them, LSU and TCU would be horrible

I was worried Stanford would blow it when the guy hit it off the wall and almost got gunned down at second thinking he hit a HR. He ended up being the winning run though

Yup, if they weren't playing texas, I'd want them to lose after that.

Well, I am brutally hungover this morning. Placed a $100 bet on the Nuggets to win the Finals at 12/1 right before the season started. Hopefully this is a good omen moving forward and it carries over to the 'Stros.

Looking at that graphic really makes you appreciate the last 8 years here in Houston. It's so, so hard to find sustained success in this league.

Crazy that the last playoff wins for the royals and nationals were their WS clinchers. And the cubs drop off is wild considering they were set up for a dynasty with their young core. They could have been what we are

What is it about the lights there. The Aggies had a couple during their games as well and they kept saying it was due to twilight. If that is the case, what a great home field advantage

To be honest, it's why I find the win at all cost, go all in every year mentality to be flawed. Yes, I'd like to win the WS each year, but sustained success is how you build a fanbase and a more profitable team.

Royals fans love the 2015 WS, but 8 years later it looks like they are nowhere near competitive in a super weak AL Central. I'd rather be able to make it to the postseason year after year, and then let the chips fall since anything can happen. The Astros should know from experience from 2019, 2021, and 2022 that teams without the best record can make the WS, and even win it.

Also, you have to give a lot of credit to Crane for these past 8 years too. He's pushed a lot of chips on the table at the right time and walked away from a hand that probably isn't a winner with his GMs. An owner who knows when it's best to be aggressive and when it's best to walk away is the reason windows stay open. Let's hope Dana does an excellent job and Crane continues to make the right moves.

This would seem to offset by continuing to sit at the table with a dud of a manager

I mean, the dude has managed the hell out of the postseason. Regular season has been head-scratching at times, but it's very hard for me to argue with the way he's handled the postseason.

I think more than anything its just plain hard to win it. I know that sounds dumb. But in the 90's the Yankees were successful buying their championships nothing stopped them from spending money so they got anyone they wanted. Then you add that guys are drawn to that and drawn to wanting to play in NY and it makes buying it easier.

Now they are limited more plus there are more teams willing to spend the money. Add in to all of this that players just seem more fragile now than they were in the 80's and 90's (maybe we know why the healed quicker) so just because you buy your team now doesnt mean they will stay healthy or dominate.

The way the Astros did it is absolutely the hardest way to build a team, and once it become fruitful it gets even more difficult because you are drafting at the bottom of the rounds instead of the top. The Astros answered this internationally which it is now being more regulated slowing that stream of players.

The Astros while traditionally not buying players are now starting to have to resort to more contracts for our own guys and soon probably give a larger contract than we traditionally have in the past....if we want to sustain it. If Crane just wants to ride the wave as long as he can then we will see our guys slowly go away, and not adding bigger $ free agents. Time will tell over the next 3-5 years
