That reliever has got to be on steroids. Hasn't pitched in the majors since 2019 and just strolls in throwing 97-99 for the first time in his life.
In all seriousness, I'm pretty sure it was the Tommy John surgery and the second season ending elbow surgery he had the next year. It loosened up his arm so he could throw faster.ttha_aggie_09 said:
Maybe he had sleep apnea?
Well the Twins have had 2 of those games in 3 days.Marvin said:
In all seriousness, this was just one of those games. Twins hit cookies and balls out of zone. They beat the shift and their dinkers fell. Varland had the game of his entire life. Dusty did the team no favors by sitting a hot-hitting Altuve and the swing early and often strategy was not the best. Is what it is.

Unless we match up with them in the playoffs…
Dusty Baker didn’t announce the Astros’ rotation for the Angels series because the team hadn’t yet made its corresponding roster move for the sixth starter.

It has to be Blanco, right?

and another thing...did Dusty or Dana (or both) mishandle the Dubon situation?
he was the 3rd or 4th best hitter on the team before Altuve's return...and now he has cooled off.
3 for 20 in limited action since Jose returned.
like a football coach icing his own kicker --- could have started him more at DH or LF
now a key player from the first 6 weeks of the season is missing
Julks (9 games) is .290 with an OPS of .764 since Altuve's return, but Chas... only .152 since coming back from injury and only .115 since Altuve returned.bearkatag15 said:W said:

LF, CF and Altuve all hit better than Dubon
My previous post wasn't really an argument one way or another. I will say I was a bit surprised Julks has performed that well, but I won't necessarily make the argument that he needs to play more.bearkatag15 said:
Now do Meyers
He has indeed looked much better. Much better looking swings, much better "pop" off of the bat. I think we all need to be fine with some major Dubon regression. He's not a 300 guy, he played outside of his mind while Jose was on the DL and he gets a ton of respect for that; but I think going forward his value is that his ability to play different positions allows us to carry only 1 spare infielder and go heavy on relievers or a 6th starter.Ag_07 said:
You're on a roll this morning.
Yes Abreu has gone 1 for 8 after the HR but he's looked MUCH better. His 1 hit was off a 104 mph FB that he took up the middle, he's had some hard hit line drives, and I thought he got a HR out last night but it wasn't quite enough. He's shown improvement. It's not completely hopeless.
As for Dubon he's just not an everyday player. Everyone knew when Jose came back it'd be hard to get him playing time. This is an odd complaint.

I didn't realize Chas was struggling so hard right now.
