and another thing...did Dusty or Dana (or both) mishandle the Dubon situation?

he was the 3rd or 4th best hitter on the team before Altuve's return...and now he has cooled off.

3 for 20 in limited action since Jose returned.

like a football coach icing his own kicker --- could have started him more at DH or LF

now a key player from the first 6 weeks of the season is missing

LF, CF and Altuve all hit better than Dubon
Julks (9 games) is .290 with an OPS of .764 since Altuve's return, but Chas... only .152 since coming back from injury and only .115 since Altuve returned.

I didn't realize Chas was struggling so hard right now.

We seem to be hyper analyzing small windows. It's baseball. Ups and downs happen. No one stays steady all year long.
For sure. This was just a discussion on whether or not Dubon is getting the short end

I think we can all admit that last night was a complete ****burger, and we need to just move on. It's a real shame that the Astros blew game 1 of the series, but stuff like that happens. Angels pitching is here, so hopefully -- they will feast.

I keep being told that the Astros are going to be very, very aggressive leading up to the deadline. They want to add a solid bat and a #3 type SP. I haven't heard any specific names, but we should have an idea as it becomes more clear which teams will be sellers.

I wouldn't expect another Mancini and Vasquez role player kind of deadline. I truly think they'll bring in at least one (likely two) impact guys.

As things stand right now, the White Sox are intriguing.

Isn't our payroll almost $190,000,000 this season? I didn't think we had a lotta bucks to chase contributors.

They certainly proved susceptible to our predations this past off-season, much to our chagrin.

The small and mid-market teams' salary cap is $233,000,000 in 2023, so we should have $43 million to play with without breaking into the Phillies and Padre's stratosphere, which would be a luxury. We reset the tax every year since we've only broken into it once, barely.

Amusingly the Dodgers are slumming it this year at $226,000,000 according to Spotrac, so they can break the bank next season.

Closer to 218 so we'll have ~15M we can add without getting dinged for going over. Rememebr if someone is making 10 M and we get them at the deadline then we only get counted for the rest of the season <5 M. I doubt there is anyone on these bad clubs with a contract that'll put us close to going over.

I wonder how the regional sports blowup affects teams at the trade deadline. I could see some teams trying to shed salary because of that.

Veteran corner outfielder that has some pop and has been known to be an Astros killer. Might be worth a look as a cheap addition.

We have a logjam at OF as it is. Can't see why we'd be interested

Can he play 1B?

If anything, we should trade an OF and Dubon for a starting pitcher - even if it's a rental

We are going to be very interesting to watch as the trade deadline approaches because we have excessive depth in a few places and we also have a few key needs

We also didn't overspend in the off-season, so we have financial flexibility

FWIW corner outfield is a position the Astros will be going after. Someone who can split time at LF/DH. But they want an impact guy. I don't see them taking a shot on Calhoun.

I have no update on Brantley, but if you connect the dots.... (this is entirely speculation on my part)

He's played 1B in 8 games in his career... it'd be like riding a bike for him I bet

He was not good the last 2 seasons and couldn't see the field in NY.

Between Tucker, Alvarez, McCormick, & Meyers we have a solid OF. If Brantley is still an option then we are geared to attack LHP & RHP. If not then another LHH would be nice.

We are set at 2B, SS, 3B, & UTL.

The only real holes in the lineup is 1B & C. 1B has been awful. We all know that. C ain't great, but it ain't as bad as it has been. We have a strong bench option that could improve it too.

I doubt we do anything about Abreu just yet. We really just need Dusty to play the guys more consistently and against more ideal match ups. Davis Hensley still have more PAs than Diaz.

If the Giants drop out, Joc Pederson could be a target. OR Conforto.

For SP, Lucas Giolito is intriguing, and if Philly keeps struggling, they may want to unload Nola.

Doubt Philly goes into sell mode. But Nola would be awesome.

I doubt it too, but as it stands, they are 5 games under .500 and they are only 1.5 games up on the lowly Nats.

He's probably the #1 pitching target across the league.

I really wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with Joc and Giolito.

Dana has history with Joc and knows what he brings to the table.

Also, Tucker Barnhart if the Cubs are out of it.

Giants are still competing for a WC.

I wonder the cost to get Shane Bieber. He's got 1.5 years left and you know Cleveland ain't keeping him.

Would love adding him. Not sure we have the prospects for that move though. Would likely cost Gilbert as part of the package

I would have to think at least 1 MLB ready player or two top 100 players.

Can we consider Bielak as mlb ready?

The Braves won a World Series with their trade deadline acquisitions. Can't wait to see what Dana Brown can do while in charge this time around for another contender.

Would JP France, Julks and another pitching prospect get it done?

I would say not even close. Both guys are older and Julks hasn't been good.

A trade for someone that good is going to hurt.
