Honest non condescending question. Who exactly are we removing from the lineup to add this potential right handed power?

Dubon? He will be replaced by Jose adding power
Bregman?
Yordan? Lol
Tucker? Also lol
Julks? Brantley is about to remove his pt
Meyers? McCormick will replace him first, are we getting rid of him also?
Pena?
I assume you must mean Abreu but he's at the start of a 3 yr 20 mil per contract, are we scrapping that eary May to sign someone new? Plus I think Brantley will see time at first removing some PT
Machete? He already has a backup with right power tht isn't playing we aren't signing someone else.

Or do you mean a right handed bat on the bench with power? What role do they fill besides righty power of the bench?
I wouldn't hate to have just that. Here is someone to think about. Tyler O'Neil. Cards are struggling and need a shake-up. The skip called him out earlier this season. He has played all 3 OF spots. His way under his xStats this season. 1.5 years of control. He could be a nice right-handed platoon when we want to give Tucker or Brantley a day off. His 2021 season show a very nice ceiling.

Headed to Europe tomorrow, boys. I expect to come home to a long winning streak and many images on this thread that I cannot show Mrs. Marvin. Make it so!

If the Astros are comfortable with Brantley playing some 1B then Julks, Salazar, Hensley, & Bannon. Or you swap out Meyers and hang on to Hensley for the defensive versatility and allow Dubon to play some CF. If the Astros want to finally get Diaz more ABs at 1B then keep Salazar and drop Hensley & Meyers. None is perfectly ideal and all are dependent on there things working out.

It was more of a thought exercise. Who would be available and make some sense? Tyler is a buy-low option that may be available and has some potential for power from the right side.

It's hasn't been a great last month or two for the MVP:

Imagine that. Braves are 100+ over the Astros which makes that sweep even better. The Nats winning 13 games so far despite being -86 is impressive.

**Actually Tampa being near the bottom and still dominating is the most impressive by far. Gonna be interesting to see what kind of regression they have this season. I think getting hit by the injury bug hard last year made folks somewhat forget about them.

Yeah. Not throwing off a mound and not throwing breaking balls. Mid June at best. I'm betting July.

And it was just a minor forearm strain.
McCullers innings pitched per season and games played:
2015 - 125.2 (22 games started);
2016 - 81 (14 games started);
2017 - 118.2 (22 games started, All-star);
2018 - 128.1 (25 games played, 22 started);
2019 - 0 innings pitched (missed season);
2020 - 55 (11 games started during 60 game covid season);
2021 - 162.1 (28 games started, Astros decide that this is the new norm and lock him in for 5 years for $85 million. Not bad if he pitches 150 innings a year. Framber pitched over 200 innings last year);
2022 - 47.2 innings pitched (8 games started);
2023 - 0 innings pitched. (Assuming no more injuries or setbacks hopefully 80 innings pitched?)

2024, 2025, 2026, still on the books at $17 million per. If he was still at the beginning of his career we could hope for around 110 innings pitched per season and missing about 1/3 of his starts. Now much less based on the latter part of his career.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mcculla02.shtml

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/houston-astros/lance-mccullers-17540/

But since 2019 he's pitched about 260 innings and made 47 starts. I'd say the covid season shouldn't be counted given how truncated it was, but it's his second best season since 2018 as far as longevity (11 games) even though it was only a 60 game season. Amusingly it would hurt his numbers to exclude it.

3 more years at 17 million per. I love him as a teammate and Astro, and he has nasty stuff, but he's never shown an ability to pitch a full season as a starter. Never getting to 30 starts in a season or even 170 innings pitched in the last decade isn't a good sign.

It will be interesting if LMJ or Jose Abreu put up more WAR over the next 3 years. At the current pace LMJ will win if he's injured all 3 years and doesn't play at all.

You're wrong on the extension. He signed it before the season. If we waited until after 2021, LMJ would have gotten 100M or more.

I would also note that 2015 was a call up not at the start of the season.

To compare him Framber's one 200 inning season seems unfair. Only 27 starters in all of baseball hit the 180 IP. Not even 1 per team. Only 62 hit the 150 mark. This is the starting pitching world we live in now.

Yeah, we've had good fortune in Cole, Framber, and JV all being workhorses when playing for us, and he did sign the extension in 3/21 (which he rewarded by making the most starts of his career at 28). Mea culpa on the timing.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/03/astros-lance-mccullers-jr-agree-to-extension.html

LMJ has only hit the 150 inning mark once (and below 130 innings every other season), which 62 pitchers hit last season per your post, so still pretty bad even going by today's standards.

I consider him a core player that I treasure from our 2017 championship, and hope his body rebounds.

Sorry for the downer post, and game face on!

Still no Diaz. Dana should probably stop talking about him getting more ABs already. Dusty said no.

I typically don't fanboy over other team's players but Max Fried is on another planet this year.

Agreed. Not healthy enough. But that doesn't mean he sucks, he'll only throw a handful of pitches and go down, he needs to be a reliever or whatever else people come up with.

Ive wondered if the stros would be thinking about trading dubon. His stock is as high as its ever been, we need pitchers, and altuve will be back soon.

I don't think there is a at an equivalent value that is worth it. Dubon is super cheap, and even if he stops hitting he has more value than some middling pitcher that pitches once a week

Guys like Dubon and Hensley can suck and still be an asset because they free up a few other spots on the roster by being able to play multiple positions.
