I don't think they are giving the hitters enough credit. They may not be squaring up every pitch, but they are putting the balls in play. So many guys go up there swinging hard and end up with the K.

Not to mention you can get an RBI for happening to be the guy up when someone's on third with less than two outs and you can spike a ball off the plate at a -63 degree launch angle for an out.
