Abreu, someone not known for his defense, was +1. His worst year ever was only -7.

When I google searched "what's wrong with Jose Abreu" this morning there were 2 or 3 short articles talking about him still adjusting to a new team and all that. I won't completely rule out the psychological side of things, including "trying too hard." Ag_07 mentioned it, but Jose could probably use a day off to just watch the team with the coaches. The Porkchop Express said:
It's possible Abreu is suffering the "trying too hard" syndrome of being a guy who has been an outstanding individual player joining a team that has known nothing but winning for 6 years in a row. That can be tough, even for an All-Star.
Outfielder Bryan Reynolds and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on an eight-year, $106.75 million contract that includes a club option and does not have an opt out, sources confirm to ESPN. Amid the Pirates' great start, they give out the largest contract in team history.

I would at least move him down the lineup a little until he figures it out. In fact I'd rather have him 5th or 6th just in general.redline248 said:When I google searched "what's wrong with Jose Abreu" this morning there were 2 or 3 short articles talking about him still adjusting to a new team and all that. He's played in all 23 games.
Astros will seriously regret not getting ahead of Tucker's free agent value like the Pirates just did with Reynolds.Wabs said:Outfielder Bryan Reynolds and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on an eight-year, $106.75 million contract that includes a club option and does not have an opt out, sources confirm to ESPN. Why on earth would he accept that? He could have hit FA and gotten at 150-200 M after making around 30 m finishing his arbitration.Wabs said:Outfielder Bryan Reynolds and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on an eight-year, $106.75 million contract that includes a club option and does not have an opt out, sources confirm to ESPN. I think he said the Astros aren't working on any deals during the season right now. It's probably a 2-way street.linkdude said:
Dana has basically said that Tuck and Framber aren't negotiating during the season. If the Astros want to go above and beyond, I'm sure that could change but it doesn't seem likely (this season, anyway)
If you take away the money Reynolds would have made in arbitration, he basically signed the same deal Andrew Benintendi got/ 5/75. Reynolds is top 10-15 OF in baseball. I am not sure Beni cracks the top 30-40.Farmer1906 said:Why on earth would he accept that? Something to track tonight: #Astros starter Luis Garcia's cutter can be quite good, and he leaned on it vs. Toronto last week. Fantastic results followed.
— Brian Murphy (@Spokes_Murphy) April 25, 2023
The Rays vs. cutters this season:
.605 OPS (5th-worst in MLB)
.263 wOBA (4th-worst)
23.9% K rate (5th-highest)

I am not trying to claim Abreu is some defensive wiz at 1st. My only point was that anyone insinuating Abreu can't field his position and Yuli can is off base.YZ250 said:
For his career Yuli is at 0. His high is +8. If I'm reading the stats correctly Abreu's carrer OAA is -7.
What about errors? Yuli has 26 errors in 8 seasons at first base which is 3.25 a year. Abreu has 74 errors in 10 seasons which is 7.4 a year.

On @SportsTalk790, Dusty Baker said Yordan Alvarez (neck) is "about the same as yesterday" and the team is awaiting word from its doctors about what's next.
