I really expected to see Abreu rotated out more often. I just didn't expect him to play so much.
Thought he'd be rotated between 1B, DH, and days off. He's been out there most every night IIRC.
Maybe it happens more once Brantley gets back.

It's possible Abreu is suffering the "trying too hard" syndrome of being a guy who has been an outstanding individual player joining a team that has known nothing but winning for 6 years in a row. That can be tough, even for an All-Star.

He's a notoriously slow starter. I think that's really all there is to it.
When I google searched "what's wrong with Jose Abreu" this morning there were 2 or 3 short articles talking about him still adjusting to a new team and all that. I won't completely rule out the psychological side of things, including "trying too hard." Speaking of Tucker, I haven't really heard anything new as far as an extension with Houston goes. Last I heard, the chances of him being extended were "around 1%" and he's pretty much dead set on pursuing free agency.

Dana has basically said that Tuck and Framber aren't negotiating during the season. If the Astros want to go above and beyond, I'm sure that could change but it doesn't seem likely (this season, anyway)

These are Abreu's xwOBA by month. This isn't even his worst month ever. This screams streaky as hell for at least 2018, 2021, & 2022. I was not aware he was like that.

If you take away the money Reynolds would have made in arbitration, he basically signed the same deal Andrew Benintendi got/ 5/75. Reynolds is top 10-15 OF in baseball. What about errors? Yuli has 26 errors in 8 seasons at first base which is 3.25 a year. Abreu has 74 errors in 10 seasons which is 7.4 a year.

Also, be careful using errors to judge someone's defense. That is one incomplete piece of the puzzle.
