Aren't we 0-4 in games that Dubon starts?
I think they just base the rankings off where each guy was drafted.tremble said:
Or maybe the rankings suck. The Astros have had a "depleted" farm system for years and yet we keep on turning prospects into MLB players.
yes, this is correctWabs said:

Is that why your dad started the thread "Does Daryle Ward being on the Astros piss anyone else off?"McInnis said:The expectations for Ward were about as high as they were for Kyle Tucker when he was in the farm system. I attended the Astros first game at Enron with my dad, who was also at the Astros first game in the Astrodome. The clearest memory I have of that game is my dad saying about Ward, who hit the first home run in Enron that night, "if he wants to make it he needs to lose some of that a**". I never remember him looking like he was in good shape.Quote:
He had some injuries and some bad luck, but the unwillngness to work harder or be more flexible are what most people remember him for.
We're also 1-0 in World Series when he's been on the roster!Wabs said:

Dusty, is that you?

He will miss the entire season.
I got to know Daryle when he was with Sugar Land at the very end of his career. I can't say enough good things about him as a human being but to your point, at that juncture he had been humbled by a long, unsuccessful path back to the majors. At age 40 he had bounced around from independent leagues to Mexico and knew there was no major league callup in his future. He was working his ass off to stay in shape and play the game he loved for as long as he could and doing whatever it took in whatever role he could find. Believe it or not, he looked far better physically at 40 than he did as a rookie. He went into coaching and is currently the hitting coach for AA Chattanooga (Reds). I'm no longer in touch with him, but I do keep up with his career and there has been some speculation recently that he might be the Reds next MLB hitting coach. The Porkchop Express said:
Ward was traded to the Dodgers in an exchange of nobodies at the end of the year. He hit .183 in 52 games there and was released at the end of the year. He managed to play six more years, but his inability to succeed in the outfield meant he only played more than 100 games in a season once, and he never hit more than 15 home runs again. He had some injuries and some bad luck, but the unwillngness to work harder or be more flexible are what most people remember him for.
I'm glad he's doing good now and I saw he stayed in baseball as a coach.Harry Dunne said:
Your assumptions about his work ethic in his major leagues are corroborated on the internet (and by his physique in the majors) so I'm not criticizing you for writing what you did. I also admit that my POV is strongly biased because I really like the guy, but even objectively based on where his life and career have gone it's obvious that he did mature and find humility and a servant spirit and I wanted to add this footnote because I think your story is incomplete and I think those that knew him at the end of his career or now remember him differently...and hopefully he has a few more chapters left to write.
Christian Vázquez is looking forward to getting his ring. He also said there were no talks with the Astros this winter about a reunion https://t.co/1ARmIwzl9k

FYI for those in Houston
I wonder if Click would have tried to bring him backQuote:

Of course. I hope by the end of my life I can be known for the second act, not the first.Harry Dunne said:
Fair enough, and even without your direct sources I knew that was the general consensus about him. I don't think there's any doubt that he would've had a better career if he had worked harder.
Like I said, I wrote what I wrote because I like the guy and wanted to tell the rest of the story. And in full candor I guess I have a soft spot for others who have made mistakes and bounced back. Not that anyone's ever going to write a story about my life, but if they did (and I'm sure you'll agree with this), I'd want them to write about the comeback and not just the setback.
