Bregman needs to get his **** together too.
yes, Abreu's struggles have overshadowed the fact that Bregman is having a worse month in May...than he did in April.

against the Cubs he was elevating and pulling -- went 5 for 11 with 2 HR's and double.

but in the last 2 series vs. the A's and Brewers...the power has disappeared once again.

(it was noticeable during the Cubs series...Chicago was pitching him inside...which is against the scouting report)

I think Bregman's legs may have done him in. Just a theory.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

His legs? Watch his swing. He's got a one trick pony swing. Either it runs into a meatball over the middle upper 3rd of the plate or it doesn't. When it does, it has a slim chance of going out at about 95-100mph. The rest is pure luck as it depends on where the fielders are when his lazy pop up or grounder to the left side makes its way to them. Anything to the right side means his swing is late as he has zero ability to purposely take something opposite field.

He did this last year and then fixed it. Stopped being so technical and started hitting what he was given. Now he's back to this ridiculously technical little league fundamental swing and it's awful. He needs to get it together. As of now, he's still valuable because he has an incredible eye and is nearly irreplaceable at 3rd base. I say stick him at cleanup where he was when he corrected last year. At the very least, he will see good pitches sandwiched between our two best hitters.

Dubon - LF
Altuve - 2B
Yordan - DH
Bregman - 3B
Tucker - RF
Peña - SS
Diaz - 1B
Meyers / Chaz - CF
Maldonado - C

Trade Abreu and one or two of our AAAA players to Miami for Yuli. Tell them you'll eat half the contract of Abreu. Admit you screwed up and move on.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Since this was directed at no one as a reply I am guessing it was a blanket statement to the crazy that must have happened during last nights game

So a week or so ago Bregman sucked because he was hitting the ball hard but everything was going oppo and he had lost his ability to pull a ball. Then he has a team willing to come inside and he proceeds to feast as he always does and now he's no longer capable of purposefully going to right field.

Then in a total stroke of genius after tearing him down that he's a had been….you create a lineup which puts him in the 4 hole which caused all of the consternation in previous seasons

FFS!!

It might as well have been, but no - it was directed at the hot take on Bregman plus eating Abreu's contract and trading him for Yuli

It's like some of us are trying to land in Message Board Genius

I agreed with the piece about Bregman's swing, reminds me of Bellinger who would clobber everything low and inside but only low and inside.

Trading a top prospect for and eating $9.75 million a year to get Yuli back was a bit of a bridge too far, to be nice

So far during this 12 stretch against easier teams we are 7-1 with a series against the A's coming up.

11-1 or 10-2 is very attainable

According to mlb.com, Bregman's highest average exit velocities are middle and away.

Fangraphs and baseball savant don't completely agree, but his pull/straight/oppo stats look close to identical to last year. He might be getting under the ball a little more right now, but his launch angle is about the same as last year and 2019.

Here is how he is compared to his 2019 season (according to fangraphs), when he hit 41 homers.

2019 - 2023
LA: 19.6 - 19.7
barrel %: 4.6 - 4.3
hard hit%: 37.2 - 34.6
fly ball%: 45.9 - 50.0
pull %: 45.3 - 45.1

Some if it is the pitchers have now fully adjusted to him and avoid high and inside better. Basically if they put it up there they know they are watching it get smashed.

I think he doing a slightly poorer job identifying the slider outside of the zone. If they can get him swinging at more of those, they can do a better job avoiding any inside risk.

I love when our resident Ted Williamses start coming out of the woodwork and mansplaining all of the easy fixes that somehow they and their hitting coaches have missed that these all-star hitters can make.

I get your sentiment, but we have 1 player in particular who hasn't fixed anything after 2 months of games and it doesn't seem like he will.

They have adjusted. Look how many pitches he is seeing away, especially low and away. Almost none in and up.

...oh wait. This is from 2019. This is nothing new.

I will take him.......every time there's a prop bet that he doesn't hit a homerun.

If they have followed the Astros for any amount of time they would have known there was no way they were winning last night. The scored 12 runs on Monday. Surprised last night wasn't a no hitter.

Altuve must still be sick.

See you in a week Diaz. 4-5 ABs every 7 days is exactly how you develop a player oh wise Dusty.

Semi-hot take that I'm sure you will all agree with: this is maybe our best defensive alignment.

I think the only positions that are really up for debate would be:
C - It's really close and with more experience I think Yanier will eclipse Maldy.
2B - again, pretty close at this point in their careers

Absolutely our best OF alignment. I would say Dubon at 2B is a slight upgrade over Altuve (defensively and at this point in their career). I hope Dubon keeps the bat going. Catcher, I think is a draw at this point, with a slight lean to Maldy. Yes, I know Yanier has a cannon, but that brain fart yesterday shows his youth in decision-making. Maldy definitely has that over him. I hope Maldy can keep recent success at the plate going...

Dusty asked for runs and Altuve, being the consummate teammate, said coach I got the runs.

May be a stupid idea for obvious reasons I'm not seeing, but I wonder if we will see Altuve at DH to get Dubon more playing time? Seems like a decent idea from an offensive perspective and would save some wear and tear on the old vet.

They have to be careful with Dubon as well since they've chosen to have more pitching on the roster available leaving a shorter bench. I've also speculated that they're keeping his future salary in mind if arbitration happens in the offseason, but I doubt it's much of a factor if any.

I think you need at least one infielder on the bench, that is the problem with moving Hensley down.

If you have an in game injury or something, you could lose the DH by swapping around positions.

Why Dusty isnt giving bregman a few off days i dont know. Seems like we need more of Dubon than less.
