I love big game Urquidy but I'm not sure I love the way he matches up against this lineup. Just me?
A few thoughts:
Urquidy's last 3 outings have been strong. 2 starts and 3 inning relief appearance. Keep riding the hot hand?
They haven't seen him this year, but they did see him 3x last year. 1 bad start, 1 okay start, and 1 great start. Mixed bag overall.
Urquidy is a reverse splits guy (nasty change up) yet the Rangers loaded up with their lefty lineup. Seems like a mistake.
On the flip side, Arlington's lefties are good at hitting RHP change-ups.
.... just came across something juicy while looking up stats on this post. The Rangers don't hit high 4 seamers well. That explains the success of Verlander & Javier. That could be the key for Urquidy tonight.
4 seam fastball + RHP + zones 1, 2, 3Rangers ranks 27th in xwOBA & wOBA.
vs Javier (
4 seam fastball + RHP + zones 1, 2, 3)-2 balls put in play for outs (neither hard hit)-4 whiffs in the zone, 2 whiffs above the zone-4 fouls in the zone, 4 fouls above the zonevs Verlander
(4 seam fastball + RHP + zones 1, 2, 3)-2 balls put in play for outs (neither hard hit)-0 whiffs in the zone, 0 whiffs above the zone-1 called strike in the zone-7 fouls in the zone, 3 fouls above the zone
