The stupid thing about the entire catcher situation: no one has ever been able to explain to me why we are ok with letting Yanier catch the young, inexperienced guys in the rotation but he can't catch the vets???
I get the personal preference of JV and the mental aspect for FV, but logically it makes no sense that rookie catcher and young pitchers have to be paired together while the vet / ace pitchers get the old, savvy catcher.
Logically one would think mixing it up would actually be better and more helpful -- an experienced pitcher could help the young catcher and vice versa with the savvy catcher helping the young pitchers.
It's never made a damn bit of sense to me, and I think most arguments are in attempt to rationalize the already made decision rather than to help make the decision.

Yeah, you can't do that. What you could do is pinch hit for Maldy and let Diaz take the catcher spot. But the DH position would be vacated and filled with the pitcher.
This takes a bit too much brainpower for our manager, though.
