I'd love to see Singelton DH Yordan LF and Chas C but as that has potential for the most runs Dusty will probably never do it. On the plus side, having Diaz and Singleton on the bench allows you to PH two good hitters if you need to manufacture a run in the back of the lineup.

Well I disagree with Brauny lol

Montgomery is awesome. Skenes is a generational talent and was the first overall pick.

I don't think his comment is in regards to the talent of Montgomery, but more in regards to the potential impact that Montgomery could bring to our team. On that aspect of it, I agree with Brauny.
I agree with this. He's the best player in the portal (and one of the best in baseball regardless) at a massive position of need, and he is an everyday player. Likely top 5-10 type of pick. Huge pickup.

Blum made a good point last night in the postgame that since they don't get to do postseason games it was really cool for them to get to be a part of kind of a postseason atmosphere and get to be a part of it in the booth as opposed to just watching and talking about it later.

Best line up over all in my opinion (both offensive and defensive) Outside of arguing SS.

1) Altuve 2B
2) Bregman 3B
3) Alverez DH
4) Tucker RF
5) McCormick LF
6) Diaz C
7) Singleton 1B
8) Meyers CF
9) Pena SS

Madly just struggles, per my own two eyes. He's already catching JV and FV and now probably Urq, who exactly is Diaz catching? Just HB and France? Pure madness...

Outside of Pressly & Abreu, these #s are very similar. Comfort or not, I am not sure the actual results or expected results show Maldy is making a huge difference behind the dish. We can clearly see Yainer is a difference-maker at the plate when compared to Martin.

Maybe this got mentioned last night as I wasn't on the thread the whole game. I kinda thought Mateo acted like a punk when he robbed Yordan of the HR with his acting like he was upset at first. Thought it a good bit of karma that he looked the fool on the one in the 9th. Anyway, got reminded of that watching the highlights.

I think the better question is what happens to the Astros long term if he does.

It's either going to hurt our ability to sign Astros that have been with the team longer or go after free agents that have generally been a big part of the playoffs.

Not unless it included opt outs. That 8 year deal would put him at his age 36/37 season as a free agent. Not ideal

He will command $30M + per year for at least 10 year deal and if you want him to sign an 8 year deal it would have to include an opt out after year 4 for him to consider IMO.

There's a high correlation to the top 20 highest paid players and their teams not having success.

Yes but also most of them are a lot older. Like Scherzer and JV are two top 5 paid guys and they are both 40

Tucker would be a top 20 paid player and in his 20s still.

Would they? I lean towards no. I'll believe Crane is willing once its reported he has made the offer. Until then, I am very skeptical.

I assume you mean 8/280 = buying out 2 years of arbitration and extend him 6 years. If he gets something like 15 M per year for the first 2 seasons (buy out of arb) then he gets around 41-42 M per year for the next 6 years. I think that is high enough to get him to consider this deal. That puts him back on the market after his age 34 season. Just young enough he might get 1 last decent contract, but its borderline.

I think we might better off going a little shorter with a very slightly higher evaluation. Maybe 6/225. That locks up his prime and lets him hit the market young enough to get another bigish deal. Or you go the other way and say, you're an Astro for life. Here is 13/330. The longer deal helps with the luxury tax #.

Verlander - 43.33MM - Mets are done
Scherzer - 43.33MM - Mets are done
Judge - 40.00 MM - Yankees are a fringe team
Rendon - 38.6 MM - Angels LOL
Trout - 37.1 MM - Angels again
Cole - 36.00 MM - Yankees still a fringe team
Seager - 35.5 MM - The exception
Arenado - 35.00 MM - Cardinals are done
Strasburg - 35.00 MM - Nats are done
Lindor - 34.1 MM - Mets are done
Correa - 33.33 MM - Twins only alive due to weak division
Stanton - 32.00 MM - Yankees a fringe team, Stanton underachieving
Cabrera - 32.00 MM - Tigers are done
Machado - 32.00 MM - Padres are done
Bregman - 30.16 MM
Ohtani - 30.00 MM - Angels just about done
DeGrom - 30.00 MM - Has pitches like two games this year
Altuve - 29.00 MM
Bryant - 28.00 MM - Rockies are done
Harper - 27.5 MM - Philies are done

Of the top 20 highest players, Seager is the only one on a team that is in control of their own destiny. Bregman and Tuve are the only other two guys that have good shot at the playoffs.

These massive contracts statistically dont work out for the team.
