radio only today. it's on a delay unless you use the mlb app (i think). they will be on TV tomorrow via the redsox broadcast (NESN)

fwiw, you can find where the game is available each day on the astros website. go to the main page, in the left column on the page you'll see the score bug and there will be a way to scroll through the dates (click left / right arrows above the score bug). you can click 'live box' or 'preview' and it'll go to a different page. there's a box on that page that says 'follow the game' that has broadcast info.

yeah, I was hoping there was some type of cough cough* illegal way of watching it online

Maybe Marvin can sneak a live streaming GoPro in the stands. That's about the only way today unfortunately

We are babymooning at the Juice Box for opening weekend. Yes I have an awesome wife. We skipped opening day because the ticket prices were stupid but we're all set for games 2, 3 & 4. We are pumped.

I often think about game 5 of 2017. That game played out like both teams were cheating their asses off. I have no real info other than what's available publicly. It was just that freaking crazy of a game.

Watching through roku on MLB.tv, it keeps going to 'reconnecting' for me. Doubt it's a tabs thing.

28 days until opening day means we're up to #28 on the jersey countdown. #28 has had some great names behind it, none bigger than the Astros' first bonafide superstar and my original Astro Buddy in 1977, Mr. Cesar Cedeno.



He started playing in the minors for Houston in 1978 when he was just 17, hitting .305 in 105 games in A ball. By age 19, he was hitting .373 in Triple A with a 1.093 OPS and the team just had to bring him up. They weren't disappointed. He hit .310 with a .451 slugging percentage in 90 games at age 19 and finished 4th in the ROY balloting.

He started 161 games at age 20 the next year and hit .265, leading the league in doubles (40), driving in 81 runs and stealing 20 bases.

He was an All-Star the next three seasons for the Astros, and won 5 straight Gold Gloves from 1972-1976, finishing 6th in the MVP voting in 1972.

That year, he joined Lou Brock as the only men in MLB History to steals 50 bases and hit 20 home runs in the same year. Cedeno hit 22 HR, stole 55 bases, led the league with 39 doubles, scored 103 runs, hit .320 and slugged .537.

However, Cedeno's reputation was damaged and everything about who he was came into question in December 1973. Back home in the DR, he and a 19-year-old woman were in a hotel room when the gun discharged and killed her. Authorities said the two were drinking and playing with the gun and initially charged him with voluntary manslaughter and put him in jail. His lawyers were unable to downgrade the charge to involuntary manslaughter and he was released after paying a fine of 100 pesos. According to some reports, the 19 year old woman was his mistress. He told police she picked up his gun and wouldn't give it back to him, so he tried to grab it and it went off, shooting her in the head. Whatever the truth, Cedeno's popularity and reputation plummeted from the next Willie Mays to someone who belonged in prison. If you thought the chants about the Astros cheating in ballparks around the country were bad, you can imagine what CC heard when the Astros went out on the road.

The next year, he bizarrely had the exact same slugging and batting averages, hit 25 homers and stole 56 bases, and recorded a second straight OPS over .900.
In 1974, his average dropped to .269, but he hit 26 HR, drove in 102, and stole 57 bases. Whether it was the toll of what had happened in the DR or the heckling he took after or a combination of the two, his numbers started to drop after that.

"He'll end up with decent statistics," a teammate told Peter Gammons in a 1977 Sports Illustrated profile, "but statistics are for people who don't know anything. He's never been the same hitter since that incident."

He never hit 20 HR in a season again, although his speed remained. He set a club record with 61 steals in 1977 that stood for more than a decade. In 1980 he regained most of his old form as the Astros won the West, hitting .309 in 137 games with 73 RBI and 48 steals.
The fans continued to boo him everywhere he went, and in 1981, he charged into the stands in Atlanta to fight 3 fans who he said were yelling things at his wife. He was fined, but somehow NOT suspedned.

After the 1981 season, he was traded to the Reds for Ray Knight.

CC played 12 years for the Astros and remains their all-time stolen base leader with 487. His 550 steals is 27th all-time.

After a couple of Jerry Mumphrey years, #28 found its way onto the back of an energetic young outfielder named Billy Hatcher in 1986, who was actually traded for Mumphrey by the Cubs. He was projected as fourth outfielder, but he broke his way into the lineup with speed and defense, stealing 38 bases for the surprise division winner.

Hatcher went beast mode on the Mets in the playoffs, hitting .280, stealing 3 bases, and hitting the biggest home run to that point in franchise history, a solo shot in the bottom of the 14th inning of Game 6 vs. Jesse Orosco that tied the game at 4-4. Hatcher had only hit 6 home runs all year. He hit the pitch before in almost the same spot, but about 20 feet foul. For a 12-year-old Porkchop watching on TV, it was hope that we were finally going to get over the mountain, only to fall just short.



Hatcher hit well over .300 for most of 1987 until he got busted for using a corked bat and finished at .296.



Hatcher hit .268 in 1988 and fell off to .231 in 1989, getting traded for Glenn Wilson. He was bad with Pittsbrugh too and got traded to the Reds right in time to be part of their World Series run in 1990 where he set a record that seems like it's never going to be broken, hitting .750 in the World Series (12 for 15) and starting the series with 7 straight hits. He finished his career with a .404 post-season average.

Billy Spiers wore #28 from 1996-2001 and was a great glue guy for the Astros, playing all over the field. He hit .288 in 6 years for the Astros including .320 in 1997 in 132 games with a .919 OPS. In 1998, he scored the Astros a walk-off win in Game 2 of the NLDS, which I'm happy to say I went to in person. Got the hit off Trevor Hoffman, who had gone 53 for 54 on saves that year.



After Spiers, the # was worn by Adam Everett, the literal defintion of "All field, no hit". He and Eric Bruntlett combined for the legendary game-ending play in the 2005 NLCS vs. the Cardinals, and I was there for the afternoon matinee when after not hustling on defense for 10 years, Carlos Lee decided to try and catch a pop up but instead broke Everett's leg.

Kudos to Biggio and Hampton being the first 2 guys out there. On the video, you can see Milt Thompson our old OF kicking this idiot in the stomach while he's on the ground with the whole team around him.

Internet says he got 90 days in jail and fined $1,000 for it.

I looked up the guy who did it, Berley "Bert" Visgar. He was 23 then. He died in 2018 at age 41. Doesn't say what the cause was.
