Astros GM Dana Brown said on the broadcast today that he liked seeing how prospect Ronel Blanco pitched today and would consider stretching him out to see how he performs as a starter.

Hey, let's no forget about this guy! He had pretty impressive career hitting stats as well. And I'm guessing you know that.Quote:
Before there was JV, there was Joe Sambito, who wore the # from 1976-1984 and was the Astros' first really great closer.

That seems very affordable

I know I'm in the minority here, wanting baseball games to be played in less than half a day. But for those who think that status quo is good, can you please answer this question: do you have no concern about the future of the game you love with the video game generation? I know young people that don't use email because it's too slow. In my life I've seen baseball fall from a strong second among the most popular sport in America to now third.
And does anyone really think a playoff game will be decided by the pitch clock? You don't think that pitchers and batters won't adjust by then? I'm guessing by May we won't hear anything more about it.

My thought is that a baseball game is 9 innings and it takes 6 outs per inning.
Guess what...That takes a while.
If you don't like that then maybe baseball is not for you.

They need to be according to whom? Average MLB game length is just over 3 hours. That's how long NFL games are. No one complains those are too long.McInnis said:Ag_07 said:

Well, like it or not games are going to be shorter because the people in charge realize that they need to be. Hope you can adapt.

No I'm not worried about it at all. Kids that enjoy baseball and want to play and are capable of playing…..still play baseball.
So the sport isn't going anywhere. Guess what, kids don't watch full college/pro football games either until they get older. Kids also watch less NBA because the stars are c*nts and play in half the games and the season is longer than baseball.
Sports on tv is for middle aged men, those men don't care if it's 10-20 min shorter. It's their release, their down time. Say what you want but baseball on tv isn't ever going to be watch by youthes.

Baseball's decline
From your user name I'm guessing you grow up with 3 hour plus baseball games and might think that's the norm. I became a fan in the late 60s when games lasting under two and a half hours were common. Look at what's happened to baseball's popularity since then.

I think the 15 seconds should be lengthened to 20 with runners on base

Are you trying to attribute the decline in popularity to mainly the length of a game? Surely not, right?

I would say it's the pace of the game. At least that's one factor. Why do you think baseball's popularity has fallen in relation to football or basketball?
And if you're a baseball fan how can this trend not be a concern?

We all have friends who don't like baseball. For me, when I ask them why they don't the answer is invariably that it's too slow.
And if you're a baseball fan how can this trend not be a concern?
I think it's more about all of the dead space in between the playing of the game than it is the pace of the game itself.McInnis said:Farmer1906 said:McInnis said:The sport has already gone somewhere. Look at the trends shown by this gallup poll.Lonestar_Ag09 said:

It certainly wouldn't be worth the countless times you have to come up with an answer of "that's his signature I guess" to the question of "why is there a "42" in the middle of the 3."redline248 said:
