I enjoy Farmer's posts as well, even the ones I don't agree with. Other than the ones where he's being a dick to me for no apparent reason.

Dirden is very interesting. Big lefty bat who can play all three OF positions. Was undrafted in 2020 when we signed him in 2020, which makes his emergence as a top 10 prospect in our system very impressive.

He shredded AA last year. Didn't do a ton in AAA late last year but seems like definitely someone to monitor this year.
He was undrafted, but there were only five rounds in 2020, so can't put too much weight in that. Interesting prospect.

I'm trying to think if we have anyone that will go on the 60 day dl if we need to open up a spot on the 40 man. Can't think of anyone. Pretty healthy to start the year.

Fcking Dodgers were cheating and Roberts trying to deny it.

I sure hope so...what will really be nice is if he comes up mid-season and kicks some ass and all the hater's heads explode with "they brought up ANOTHER ace...WTF???"

I was thinking about that. All the drama and injury over the last 5 years could be for the best if it means we get to control him through 2028+ and align him with Hunter and Javier over the super long term.

I watched him pitch for Corpus in 2017 and at he looked so good the time I thought he'd probably be on the 2018 playoff roster.

I hope he stays healthy and puts it all together this year. Just pitching a few innings in the majors would have to be considered a victory at this point.

Quote:

Roberts denied the allegations. He also confirmed that they were one of several teams investigated by the league for stealing signs after the 2018 season. MLB, he said, "came up with nothing."

Well I mean, if MLB investigated and said the Dodgers weren't cheating, who are we to not take them at their word? It's not like they would ever privately reprimand a team for cheating and then do everything possible to prevent that from becoming public.

Eff Rob and his tinkering…

But I think if anything, this is going to help Luis.
Why?
Because in any repetition sport/event the most simple technique is the best. The harder something is to repeat, the less consistent it is going to be. The more drastic the difference between pitching from the windup and from the stretch, the harder it is to transition from one to the other.

He was also spending energy doing something that wasn't (at least physically) helping him throw a better pitch. Not a ton of energy and I don't think it would make a difference over 5 innings in the MMP AC, but on the hot summer afternoon outdoors when he's throwing 110 pitches, the less superfluous movement the better.

The "if it ain't broke" approach is underrated and he has pitched well and I assume that's why they let him go on doing it but as you get into the elite levels of anything, it's the small things that make a difference. You certainly wouldn't teach a young pitcher to rock the baby and I suspect he has been good despite this and not because of it. Whatever aspect of it helped him mentally can be accomplished with a more simple move and he's young enough and has been doing it a short time enough that he's going to be fine.

Point of note: His OPS last year with bases empty was .728 and with men on was .596.

Appreciate the response. Sorry it took me so long to read/reply (school stuff). I do wonder if the Astros ever did any so called research into how the extra movement affected him over the course of a game and season. I find it interesting you bring up the "repetition" aspect. I feel like I just read the other day that he started doing it because it was easy to repeat over and over. To be fair, I skimmed whatever that was so I might have misinterpreted.
