regarding an extension for Bregman...

he's making $30 MM in 2023 and in 2024.

I don't think he's going to take a pay cut. So an extension means $30 MM per year at least.

AB was a $30 MM player in 2018 & 2019, but that was 4 years ago.

would wait and see if he can get close to those numbers again before locking him in for $30 MM per year for the next 5 seasons.

and would definitely get a deal done for Tucker first

I'm not a fan either.

And I get that it's advertising but at the base level, advertising is to sell a product. What is Oxy trying to sell to the people who watch the Astros? I mean, they're an O&G/chemical company- we're not buying their petrochemicals or gas from them. It would be more understandable for Exxon, Shell, Chevron, etc since they have a product they market straight to consumers via a distributor network (ie- gas stations).

In other words, what kind of ROI is there really for Oxy sponsoring the Astros or paying to advertise with them on the uniforms, etc?


It's so executives can live the high life.

They will lay off 5,000 employees before giving up their Minute Maid Park suite and perks they get for purchasing that

Really. I had to wear that logo on blue Nomex coveralls for 11 years working at their chemical plants. Yuck.

Man the Oxy butthurt is strong.

IDGAF...It's a patch. A couple weeks into the season and we won't even notice them. Just like the stupid 65 year patches we wore last year.

Why do most of these proposed realignments throw out history for geography? At the very least the "Classic Eight" teams of the National League and the "Original Eight" of the American League should remain in the leagues they have been a part of for 120+ years.

I feel like everyone is going nuts for the DR while not for the US.



This tops the DR lineup IMO
C - JT (Smith back up)
1B - Goldy
2B - McNeil
SS - Turner
3B - Arenado
LF - Betts
CF - Trout
RF - TED
DH - Alonso (or Schwarber)

Pitching is where I think DR has the edge. That is just because so many Americans aren't playing.

I appreciate the money they are giving the team, but I don't like advertisements on uniforms. Looks tacky and cheap.

That's actually a good thing for the Astros. First, he was asking for the biggest payday for a first year arbitration player, so he has to understand why the Astros weren't going to just roll over. Second, that lower salary becomes the starting point for future arbitration, which means it saves us money both this year and in the future. Third, just having the arbitration done gives both sides a better idea of what projected arbitration salaries will be the next two years while trying to negotiate. I'm still not optimistic we work out a deal but simply having this process done is a net positive.

They let watt go because the team was going nowhere fast and wasn't likely to be competitive again during his career.

I don't think I understand it from Oxy's viewpoint. I know it helps the Astros, but Oxy doesn't produce or market retail products. You can't buy an Oxy sports car, or gasoline to fill it with. Does seeing their logo in the outfield or on their uniforms make anyone want to go out and buy a barrel of Oxy crude oil or a pound of polyvinyl chloride? Maybe people who buy these commodities for their companies could be influenced, but I kind of doubt it.

To me the two aren't comparable. JJ was hurt quite a bit in his later years, and the teams were never that great. Jose has been the face of this organization for 10 years, and the leader of two championship teams.
