I don't think we'd need him to. A big part of his value proposition is his 1B defense. If he's in the lineup, he should play 1B and Yordan/Brantley/Abreu should be LF/DH/rest in some combination.E said:
Is he able to spot start in LF?

$3mm seems reasonable for adding him as an extra bat off the bench and fill in for Abreu and whoever needs a day off from DHing.

He can play 2nd or 3rd as well. Seems reasonable to me.
On @MLBNetwork theyre saying that dipoto and the padres are going to make a deal that sends tatis to the mariners. What is the likelihood that acrually happens?

No Yuli. With any other manager yes but Dusty will get him 300 ABs even if his OPS is below .600Ag_07 said:

That contract includes a no-trade clause... right? Can't imagine Tatis would enjoy toiling away in obscurity.
In Dusty's defense, his rotation of players has worked out. You also have to give him credit for having come a long way in terms of load management since ruining the arms of Prior and Wood.MaxPower said:No Yuli. Let he who has never complained about a Dusty lineup cast the first stone… but it's hard to complain when the team wins 100 games, gets to the postseason fresh and he plays the best guys when we get there.

Were we resting all starters in 2016 when Springer played all 162 and Altuve played 161?Farmer1906 said:Harry Dunne said:In Dusty's defense, his rotation of players has worked out. Dusty's rotation/rest? The one we've been doing for a decade?
Also we won the World Series.W said:

The padres aren't exactly a huge mkt team. Even with all the spending.

This may be uncomfortable news for you but Dusty is in fact not Jesus Christ. I imagine his poop smells and he has probably cussed a time or two.
If your argument is load management then get a backup 1B that can hit when you know he's going to get 300 ABs. Seems like basic GM work. In addition, you are better off developing a young hitter like Diaz than throwing Yuli out there when there's no future benefit to be gained.

Did we have a 6 man rotation with AJ?
Playoff Pina?Marvin said:MaxPower said:

I think we have enough firepower in the lineup to give the younger guys a chance. It's not like the backup 1B will be getting 300 AB. Let it be a trade deadline thing if necessary.
That said, I'd be fine if they decided Yuli was worth another year on the cheap. Thought to better playoff La Pina.
I lived in Seattle for 12 years and just moved back to Texas this past summer. It is a beautiful place and I enjoyed it. But the winter which basically set in when we turned the clocks back and continued until we would "spring forward" was the most depressing stretch of living I've ever experienced. Dark, cold, rainy. Day after day. On that basis alone I would take San Diego every time.Marvin said:Rustys-Beef-o-Reeno said:Marvin said:bearkatag15 said:On @MLBNetwork theyre saying that dipoto and the padres are going to make a deal that sends tatis to the mariners. Would you rather live in San Diego or Seattle?
I'm a beer nerd, and even though they were RUDE to Mrs. Marvin and me during the playoffs, I'd probably choose the northwest and all their breweries. But a young guy like Tatis? Come on.
