Is he able to spot start in LF?
I don't think we'd need him to. A big part of his value proposition is his 1B defense. If he's in the lineup, he should play 1B and Yordan/Brantley/Abreu should be LF/DH/rest in some combination.

$3mm seems reasonable for adding him as an extra bat off the bench and fill in for Abreu and whoever needs a day off from DHing.

He can play 2nd or 3rd as well. Seems reasonable to me.

Like the idea of having Yuli on the bench, backup for 1B or DH, with having him available for postseason.

Also like the idea of having Hensley and Diaz getting major league ABs and spending time with the big league club.

Oh well, just a fan, Crane is paying people to figure this out.

No Yuli. With any other manager yes but Dusty will get him 300 ABs even if his OPS is below .600

That contract includes a no-trade clause... right? Can't imagine Tatis would enjoy toiling away in obscurity.

The padres aren't exactly a huge mkt team. Even with all the spending.

Dipoto likes to make deals just to make deals.

He's done it time and time again and they're still chasing us.

In Dusty's defense, his rotation of players has worked out. You also have to give him credit for having come a long way in terms of load management since ruining the arms of Prior and Wood.

Let he who has never complained about a Dusty lineup cast the first stone… but it's hard to complain when the team wins 100 games, gets to the postseason fresh and he plays the best guys when we get there.

Dusty's rotation/rest? The one we've been doing for a decade?

I don't blame cashman at all. Severino hasn't pitched a full season with the Yankees since 2018… He's combined for 26 games since the start of the 2019 season

Were we resting all starters in 2016 when Springer played all 162 and Altuve played 161?

Did we have a 6 man rotation with AJ?

it would be a masterstroke for San Diego...if they could find a team to take Tatis and the 12 years left on his contract off their hands.

use the money elsewhere

This may be uncomfortable news for you but Dusty is in fact not Jesus Christ. I imagine his poop smells and he has probably cussed a time or two.

If your argument is load management then get a backup 1B that can hit when you know he's going to get 300 ABs. Seems like basic GM work. In addition, you are better off developing a young hitter like Diaz than throwing Yuli out there when there's no future benefit to be gained.
Harry Dunne
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree. He's going to play who he's got, so get him the best players possible. If we can do better than Yuli, great!

But for chrissakes stop b1t<h1ng like menstrual women about his methods when he delivers a title.

Would you rather live in San Diego or Seattle?

I'm a beer nerd, and even though they were RUDE to Mrs. Marvin and me during the playoffs, I'd probably choose the northwest and all their breweries. But a young guy like Tatis? Come on.

I think we have enough firepower in the lineup to give the younger guys a chance. It's not like the backup 1B will be getting 300 AB. Let it be a trade deadline thing if necessary.

That said, I'd be fine if they decided Yuli was worth another year on the cheap. Thought to better playoff La Pina.

Did you follow the team?

Decade was an exaggeration. The 2016 team was fighting for its life and failing. That was when we didn't have a full time DH and that is where guys "rested". Springer & Altuve had double digits start there.

2017
Altuve 147 starts
Bregman 148
Springer 137
Gurriel 137
Reddick 121
Marwin 120

Don't say a decade then if you mean 5 years. Most of all you, the hard line stats guy.

By "his" rotation of players, I meant the way Dusty rests players heavily. I never claimed he originated load management. That's dumb. No one thinks that.

We rest players and we have a 6 man rotation and Dusty is the manager. You want me to call it AJs scheme? Luhnows? Does it even matter at this point? Are you being a dick just for sport or do you have a point to make?

I lived in Seattle for 12 years and just moved back to Texas this past summer. It is a beautiful place and I enjoyed it. But the winter which basically set in when we turned the clocks back and continued until we would "spring forward" was the most depressing stretch of living I've ever experienced. Dark, cold, rainy. Day after day. On that basis alone I would take San Diego every time.
