I'll be surprised if Diaz or Lee is our everyday catcher in 2024.Farmer1906 said:
Diaz and Hensley could do it. Diaz and Hensley have played first base 48 & 71 games in the minors. Diaz played it for often in 2022 tho. I do find it unlikely that Diaz is the primary back up at C. I could see Lee, but I don't think the org believes in Diaz behind the dish.
Agree that Lee is probably more likely to ultimately evolve into an "everyday" catcher than Diaz, simply because I think we envision Diaz playing multiple positions. And with Diaz, the more he mashes, the less time he'll spend catching IMO. Like if Diaz breaks through this year, I could see us not retaining Brantley next year and Yordan/Abreu/Diaz is our LF/DH/1B in some order.
The problem is that the 2024 free agent catcher market is very stinky. Grandal seems like our "type" but he was awful last year. D'Arnaud, Zunino, Gomes and a few more unexciting ideas. I don't think it's out of the question Maldy could be back in 24. Could see us making a trade too.
