Well to be fair, Seattle didn't have to hold anything back for the next day. Philly had to make it last for 3 nights.

Imagine not scoring a single run in the equivalent of your first two home playoff games in 21 years. Then again I'm sure Mariners fans were just happy to be there.

Yordan is MLB Network's #1 left fielder.

When I think of that game in Seattle, I think of Luis Garcia. That dude was nails in that game.

Unless he really shows out in ST, I think Dusty likes Dubon better. He's such a nice roster piece for the fact he can play everywhere.

If you replaced Hensley or Diaz with Jake, how many innings is Jake actually playing. Alvarez/Brantley will get 95% of LF. Is Jake providing enough value to share backing up CF/RF with Dubon?
Jake is kinda hard to peg right now. I'm curious to know how the organization views him and what we project his role to be going forward.

He's shown he can mash AAA pitching (OPS of .950+ in 400+ ABs). He did alright in his first big league stint but struggled mightily last year. Some of that can potentially be attributed to his shoulder recover and lack of offseason/spring.

I wouldn't be that shocked if we rope off 3-4 starts per week for Jake in the OF and give him another chance. Even if Chas is our CF of the future, we still have a couple other OF positions we might need to fill in the next few years, so expending a big league roster spot and some developmental capital on Jake now could pay off.

Not sure how I feel about going into spring with an open competition in CF. Chas has done enough to warrant a starting job and not sure how much longer we can keep him dangling in the wind. If Jake rakes this spring, we can treat it as a good problem.

All that said, we could use Jake as a trade piece to get a timeshare catcher with some controllability or a pitching prospect.

Chas should be the everyday CF. I know I'm bias because of how great he played in the post-season, and I don't want to put my Chris Burke goggles on here, but he's a good CF and he gives you some pop at the bottom of the lineup.

I have a soft spot for 2021 Jake in my heart, but I don't know if he makes more sense as an end of the bench pinch runner / defensive replacement or put him back in Triple A for the start of the season. If/when Yordan or Uncle Mike gets hurt, it would definitely make sense to put him in left and let the healthy guy be DH until the other guy gets off the IR.

In a perfect world Jake would be the 4th/5th OF, and Hensley would be the util infielder...and I'd never have to see Dubon bat again.

I think that's reasonable.

Given our current personnel, we're at the point now where the CF job should belong to Chas until he loses it. But agree that leaves a tough question of what to do with Jake in the meantime.

If he balls out in spring training, I could definitely see him as our 4th OF, starting 3-4 games per week in a variety of positions. Then see how he's doing in June/July and take it from there.

If he struggles in spring training, maybe let him start the year at AAA and have him in queue as first OF guy up in the event of injury.

Good point. If we start with 28, seems almost certain Meyers will be part of that.

Not publicly. I would assume there were some conversations. Crane specially brought his name up early in the offseason.

so basically expect the centerfield shuffle again in 2023...

among Chas, Jake, and Dubon

At this point, I am leaning towards no. Chas is the starter. Dubon is the back up. The org gives Diaz and/or Hensley the roster spot(s) for young unproven back up with potential. I say this fully thinking Jake > Dubon on offense and OF defense.

Can anyone guess that the Astros long-term plan is at CF (or is there plan simply to be very short term?)? Do we think they see Chaz or Jake as the long term future of CF? or is there a prospect that we forsee, in say 2024, that looks to cement that position for years to come? Or is a trade our only way to fill that role without a rotating door of players coming and going and/or platooning?

Mrs. Marvin and I were there. I'm not sure a single person left the stadium until the Pena homer. Fans were so loud, so rude, and so in our faces that we didn't leave our seats for 17-1/2 innings. We relocated to the dugout area for the final couple of outs because a few fans had left by then.

Fans yelled and cursed at us for six hours. Their level of hatred was way beyond what we experienced at even Yankee Stadium. Kids in front of us would turn around, flip us off and scream "**** you, cheaters!" with their parents cheering them on. We stood and clapped when Pena broke the tie and three guys leaned over and told us to shut up and sit the **** down if we wanted to see the rest of the game. I tried to give a kid the "Sea Us Rise" rally towel from the gate and he called me a cheater, haha. We did our thing and cheered on the Astros, but it was without question the most hostile environment we have witnessed. I rode the subway from Queens in my Astros gear at midnight after a Mets game and felt safer than walking to the train in Seattle.

Seattle fans took things way too far. It was personal to them. Ugly fans.

Right now Chas represents a top 10-15 CF that is under control for 4 more years on the cheap. He plays plus defense and has been above avg offensively. I can't speak for the Astros, but is there a good reason to not consider him the guy in CF? His emergence means we can put more funds towards upcoming FAs (Tuve, Bregman) and not need to burn prospect capital for a trade.

Adding some data.

Over the last 2 years, Chas is ahead of other CFers in wRC+ like Adolis Garcia, Luis Robert, Dalton Varsho, Cedric Mullins, & Mike Yaz.

Similarly on defense, he played fewer innings than rookie prodigies Michael Harris & Julio Rodriquez and has more OAA.

He's not going to hit .300. He's not going get flirt with .900 OPS. He's probably never going to have a 30-100. But he fills a need at the back of our lineup and gives you plus defense in a critical position.

This now ends the meeting of the Chazzyfiz Fanatics.

Your experience (unfortunately) doesn't surprise me at all and is why I don't mind taking shots at Mariners fans and still enjoy some good old fashioned schadenfreude at their expense. Well, that and especially their pitcher throwing at Jose's head late in the season. I'm sure I'll get over that eventually.

Of course Luis's performance combined with all the other pitching efforts and Jeremy's homer for a great team win were the best parts to remember.

Baltimore fans were pretty snotty in September. I wonder how they'd compare in a playoff setting.

I wouldn't hate adding one more. It's not needed, but it can't hurt. Britton seems like a nice flyer. Matt Moore would probably be my top pick.
