As #MLB teams celebrate their Jan. 15 international signings, don’t overlook the kids who received small bonuses. 2022 World Series champion #Astros’ Framber Valdez and Cristian Javier each signed for $10,000 as international free agents. pic.twitter.com/GkH37RTrbl

My wife and I are both from Houston and she was pissed when my job moved us here.
College Station. She just really hoped I got a job "anywhere but Houston".

Can't wait till Spencer Arighetti makes it to the rotation. Totally going to call him Spaghetti. Maybe he can go against Lasagna.

I didn't realize we have our very own ONeil Cruz.Deluxe said:
More Christian Gonzalez info. Far from a sure thing but an interesting, high upside prospect. He hasn't done much at A ball yet. Will be watching him closely this year though...Quote:
After landing in the international penalty box for exceeding their bonus pool in 2016, the Astros were limited to paying no more than $300,000 for anyone in the next two years. They gave the maximum to Gonzalez in 2018, and the Dominican has emerged as the best prospect in that crop. He made his U.S. debut last summer and needed just three weeks to merit a promotion to Low-A.
Listed at 6-foot-3, Gonzalez continues to grow and is closer to 6-foot-6 today. His frame gives him tremendous leverage and combines with his bat speed to produce outstanding exit velocities that could increase further as he matures physically. If he can keep his right-handed swing from getting too long, develop some plate discipline and learn to drive more balls in the air, he could produce 20 or more homers per season.
Gonzalez has a rocket arm at shortstop and his throws across the infield have been clocked up to 99 mph. An average runner, he has a quick first step and more than enough range to stay at shortstop. If he slows down too much as he fills out, his power potential and arm would fit the right-field profile.
I'd be pretty happy to see him develop into that. Given how good our development team is, I like taking fliers on some big athletes with room to grow and teach them how to hit dingers. Generally speaking, hitting instruction has gotten so much better in the last 5-10 years.Farmer1906 said:I didn't realize we have our very own ONeil Cruz.Deluxe said:

Yep, gilbert at 5'9 is the yardstick and best example of a shorter player in the astros organizationDeluxe said:I'd be pretty happy to see him develop into that. Obviously we don't discriminate based on height tho, given that Gilbert is like 5'9 haha

It's wild that we have a player who was in our org back when Kaz Matsui, Miguel Tejada, Carlos Lee and Pudge Rodriguez were Astros.Farmer1906 said:Can you believe Altuve signed with the Astros about a year after we lost to the White Sox in the WS.Deluxe said:

Goes to the "no way that guy was an Astro" discussion to have over a cold one. My favorite is Doc Gooden.

Is there a better example of JAG who etched his name in history with one brilliant game? I can't think of one. Finished his career with a record of 81-91. That includes his second season in 1954. He went 3-21 with Baltimore.ScapeGOAT said:
