My wife and I are both from Houston and she was pissed when my job moved us here.
Where were you before that she liked it so much better?

College Station. She just really hoped I got a job "anywhere but Houston".
"But Jose, crazy Daniela said she wants to live anywhere but Houston"

Playing in 6 straight LCS
Winning 4 of 6 possible Pennants
Winning 2 of 4 possible rings

Yeah. That's ok. A little better than average I would say.

Yeah but the tiebreakers are:
1. Most number of wins in the World Series
2. Most number of no hitters thrown in the World Series
3. Most number of 454 ft three run homers hit in a World Series game.

Part 6? In my recap of the 2022 Houston Astros

June 1-12
Record: 5-5
Overall Record: 37-23
AL West Position: 1st place, 8.5 games ahead

Game 51, June 1, 2022, Astros 5, A's 4
@ RingCentral Coliseum
Attendance: 5,189
Record: 33-18

Nothing gets asses in the seats in Oakland like a Wednesday afternoon game and the Astros gave those 5,189 fans something to remember. Trailing the A's after eight innings, the Astros exploded for four runs in the top of the ninth and held on for a one-run win. The rally started like most for the Astros, with a single to center by Mauricio Dubon. Yuli Gurriel followed with an infield hit, and Jose Altuve walked to load the bases. One out later, Alex Bregman walked to make it 3-2, and Yordan Alvarez yanked a double to left center to clear the bases and put the Astros up 5-3. Ryan Pressley worked out of a jam in the ninth to hold on to the win. Justin Verlander took the no-decision while Bryan Abreu got the win to go to 3-0. Alvarez was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI to get his average to .272 and his OPS to .941.

Game 52, June 3, 2022, Astros 10, Royals 3
@ Kauffman Stadium
Attendance: 22,516
Record: 34-18

The Astros walloped the Royals on the road, much like I once punched a Royals fan in the face at this very same stadium with a 10-3 victory, racking up seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Yordan Alvarez continued to heat up, going 3 for 5 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, and a 2-run homer, his 15th of the season. Martin Maldonao was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and a 2-run homer of his own to get his average up to a white-hot .145. The Astros had 14 hits on the day. Jose Urquidy reached 5-2 on the year with 6 innings of 5-hit ball.

Game 53, June 4, 2022, Royals 6, Astros 0
@ Kauffman Stadium
Attendance: 14,686
Record: 34-19

It's sheer ugliness all the way around as Kris Bubic and four relievers combine to limit the Astros to 5 hits in a 6-0 white-washing. Salvador Perez hits a three-run bomb off Luis Garcia in the sixth inning for the knockout punch. Only Yordan Alvarez has a pulse for the good-guys, reaching base 3 times with a hit and 2 walks as his OPS rises to .972.

Game 54, June 5, 2022, Astros 7, Royals 4
@ Kauffman Stadium
Attendance: 12,776
Record: 35-19

The Astros get off the deck with four runs in the final two innings, including three in the top of the ninth to earn a series win on the road against the Royals. The good guys lead 3-2 after 7 innings and add a run in the top of the 8th on Yordan Alvarez's 16th homer of the year. Kansas City closes the gap to 4-3 entering the top of the ninth. Mauricio Dubon reaches on a fielder's choice and moves to second when Alvarez is hit by a pitch with two away. The Astros get massive clutch hits - three singles in a row from Kyle Tucker, Yuli Gurriel, and Jeremy Pena to push the lead to 7-3. Ryan Pressly gets two outs in the bottom of the inning, then leaves with an injury concern, and Dusty Baker sends of TexAgs into cardiac arrest by summoning Phil Maton from the bullpen. Maton pays immediate dividends for the Royals with two walks, an RBI single and then another walk before Rafael Montero clotheslines him at the mound and takes over to record the final out. Alvarez is looking more unstoppable by the day, going 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, upping his average to .295, his slugging percentage to .624 and his OPS to 1.015.

Game 55, June 6, 2022, Mariners 7, Astros 4
@ Minute Maid Park
Attendance: 27,521
Record: 35-20

The biggest news of the day comes off the field as the Astros announce they've signed slugger Yordan Alvarez to a 6-year, $115 million deal that will keep the burgeoning superstar in Houston until at least 2028. The Mariners aren't as friendly, pouncing on Cristian Javier for 5 earned runs to take a 7-5 victory. Alvarez goes 0 for 4 with his new deal, leading some posters to worry that he's never going to hit the ball again. Michael Brantley, Kyle Tucker, and Jose Altuve each get 3 hits in the loss, with Tucker, Altuve and Chazzy Fizzy each hitting a homer.

Game 56, June 7, 2022, Astros 4, Mariners 1
@ Minute Maid Park
Attendance: 30,583
Record: 36-20

Justin Verlander celebrated my mom's birthday in style with a dominating performance. JV allows 1 earned run and walks 2 in 7 innings while striking out 12 to get to 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA. Despite this, I'm told by TexAgs that his numbers will be quite easy to replicate if he leaves for the Mets in 2023. Yordan Alvarez is back in Crush City mode, with his 17th home run, which comes in the 8th inning, a 2-run shot to break open a 1-run game. Alvarez has 36 RBI and Kyle Tucker is right behind him with 33.

Game 57, June 8, 2022, Mariners 6, Astros 3
@ Minute Maid Park
Attendance: 23,752
Record: 36-21

The Mariners vex the Astros for the second time in three days, bunching together 5 runs between the third and the fifth innings. Jose Urquidy (5-3) is tagged with the loss, allowing 7 hits, 4 walks, and 4 earned runs in 4 and a third innings. Yordan Alvarez remains an inferno at the plate, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBi. For the season, his average is up to .299, slugging to .630 and OPS to 1.024. After a sluggish hitting start, the Astros have 4 regulars (Alvarez, Brantley, Altuve, and Pena) hitting at least .277.

Game 58, June 10, 2022, Marlins 7, Astros 4
@ Minute Maid Park
Attendance: 34,163
Record: 36-22

Derek Jeter's fish brigade sends the Astros to their third loss in four days. As I look over the starting lineup for Miami 7 months later, I can identify exactly one of their guys - Jorge Soler - because he played for the Braves the year before. Miami knocks around LuAce for 5 earned runs in 4 and a third innings, and shockingly Phil Maton gives up 2 more in relief to get his ERA to 735.67 for the year. Even more frustrating, the Astros have 16 baserunners and go just 2 for 16 with runners in scoring position. Michael Brantley and Kyle Tucker have long balls, for Tucker it's his 11th along with 11 stolen bases. Alex Bregman's slide after a hot start continues as his average dips to .219 while Yordan Alvarez goes 3 for 5 to raise his to .307.

Game 39, June 11, 2022, Marlins 5, Astros 1
@ MInute Maid Park
Attendance: 31,379
Record: 36-23

The Astros suck and everyone knows it. They are a fraud and can't hit or field or pitch and I just want to lay down and die now that we've lost 4 of the last 5. It's those damn Marlins again, pouncing on Framber Valdez for a 2-out, 3-run rally in the top of the second and making it stick. The Astros are terrible with RISP again, going 1 for 13 and leaving nine men on base. On a bright note, Martin Maldonad has his second straight two-hit game and raises his batting average to .153.

Game 60 June 12, 2022, Astros 9, Marlins 4
@ Minute Maid Park
Attendance: 29,341
Record: 37-23

I take it back! I take it all back! The Astros wake up the bats and hit the Marlins with a 4 spot in the 4th and another in the 8th. It's a broken record to sing the praises of Yordan Alvarez, who is 3 for 4 with 2 runs driven and is now slashing .311/.402/.628. Jeremy Pena and Jose Altuve hit homers as the all-star second baseman goes 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Pena also steals a base and through 60 games is on pace for 24 home runs and 16 steals; I'll buy that for a dollar! Jason Castro gets a hit to get his batting average into triple digits at .102. Justin Verlander, whose numbers are easily replaced in the aggregate, moves to 8-2 and lowers his ERA to 1.94 allowing 4 unearned runs and striking out 5. Errors by Altuve and Pena lead to a 4-run 7th for the Marlins to get them within 5-4.

More Christian Gonzalez info. Far from a sure thing but an interesting, high upside prospect. He hasn't done much at A ball yet. Will be watching him closely this year though...

Quote:

After landing in the international penalty box for exceeding their bonus pool in 2016, the Astros were limited to paying no more than $300,000 for anyone in the next two years. They gave the maximum to Gonzalez in 2018, and the Dominican has emerged as the best prospect in that crop. He made his U.S. debut last summer and needed just three weeks to merit a promotion to Low-A.

Listed at 6-foot-3, Gonzalez continues to grow and is closer to 6-foot-6 today. His frame gives him tremendous leverage and combines with his bat speed to produce outstanding exit velocities that could increase further as he matures physically. If he can keep his right-handed swing from getting too long, develop some plate discipline and learn to drive more balls in the air, he could produce 20 or more homers per season.

Gonzalez has a rocket arm at shortstop and his throws across the infield have been clocked up to 99 mph. An average runner, he has a quick first step and more than enough range to stay at shortstop. If he slows down too much as he fills out, his power potential and arm would fit the right-field profile.

I didn't realize we have our very own ONeil Cruz.

January 16, 2001 - Jim Deshaies, former Astro lefthander and broadcaster, receives one vote in the Hall of Fame balloting. It comes from local sportswriter John Lopez. Deshaies receives notoriety for a humorous website openly promoting his candidacy for Cooperstown

Lopez's original column explaining the vote: https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/Why-Deshaies-got-my-vote-2000344.php

The voting: https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2001.shtml. Jimmy D got one more vote than Andy van Slyke or Howard Johnson.

The website was putjdinthehall.com but I can't find a working version of it, even on the Wayback machine.

I'd be pretty happy to see him develop into that. Given how good our development team is, I like taking fliers on some big athletes with room to grow and teach them how to hit dingers. Generally speaking, hitting instruction has gotten so much better in the last 5-10 years.

Obviously we don't discriminate based on height tho, given that Gilbert is like 5'9 haha

Yep, gilbert at 5'9 is the yardstick and best example of a shorter player in the astros organization

One of my favorite games as well.

My wife and daughter went on a short girls' trip to Cincinnati this weekend. You might recall, my daughter single-handedly won Game 5 of the World Series by going to her room, getting her Astros' cap, and putting it on backwards about 2 minutes before Jeremy Pena's home run put us up 2-1 in Game 5.

Right before they went to the airport Saturday, she went to her room and came out with her hat on. My wife asked why she was bringing it and her response was, "Because Daddy said Cincinnati's baseball team was really terrible and I wanted to wear my hat around so they can see what a good team looks like."

10-year-old bringing the heat in mid-January.
