Most of the country hates the Astros. At 102 wins you'd likely have 95% betting under.
Also fangraphs had us at 90 in November.

Bottom line is that almost everything has to go right to win 100 games. Last year who could have predicted JV being a CYA winner, Peña busting out, healthy productive Breggy, Framber ace season, Altuve return to form, etc.
We have had a lot of talent but a lot of luck too.

My assumption is that they feel since Seattle has been competitive and the Rangers have made a bunch of offseason moves + the annual Angels have Trout/Ohtani and thus will figure it out this year = Astros win total being reduced.

for poster that said his brother saw numbers are caesars, what are the other teams numbers? he needs to bet as much as they will allow if that 92 is an actual number
fangraphs always low on their numbers for what the top teams win. they had us at 90 last year also. they typically put even the best teams at less than 95 wins.Quote:

I think they just gotta hope none of these young guys take a step back over the next couple of years. That's the gamble with the contracts in my opinion.

If we can mostly avoid the injury bug in 2023 like this past season we should win more than 90 games. Besides a more competitive AL West is a good thing for this team despite playing divisional opponents less often moving forward.wangus12 said:

The models all appear to predict a good drop in pitching for the Astros. I'm not a metric jockey but that seems to be the driver on season win totals.

This is a long one but it's very very good. Man Yordan was so small at one point.
JP Morosi said on MLB Network that he wouldn't be surprised if one or both Framber & Javier got extensions before the year. He mentioned them as well as a lot of the Astros core were guys who didn't sign for a lot. I took that as meaning they'd be open to signing deals to get a piece of the pie sooner. After all Framber & Javier have made 4.1 M & 1.5 M in career earnings. Morosi also brought up the fact that Javier is younger and could tact on a few years and still hit the market for another big payday. Yes, he brought up Tucker too and said there were talks in the past, but seeing what big-name position players are getting, he would cost more. MVP ballot, perennial all-star, blah blah blah.
Lets look at Javier & Framber comps.
