But they could call em the "I-35s" and be the scariest team name ever.

If/when the MLB expands to 32, I would think they do 4 divisions of 4 teams in each league. I wouldn't mind dropping all those late night Left coast games from our schedule...
I like it.

To make it work best, I think 2 teams would need to move. The NL has 5 teams in the west while the AL has 3. One would need to move. (lets say Rockies). I think it also makes some sense to move an AL to NL and not add both expansion teams to the NL. (lets say Rays)

Here is how I would do it.

I think most teams would be happy with it. The Braves would hate it. They'd lose a ton of fans and get a completely new division.

Id counter with SLC getting a team and being with the that group and LV, angels then with the other So cal teams. Ari with Texas and KC, Nashville with braves and fl

That would be good too. The scheduling gets so much better too. There wouldn't need to be interleague play nightly.

It could be something like this:

In Division (3 teams):
3 Game Series @ Home
4 Game Series @ Home
3 Game Series Away
4 Game Series Away

In league (12 teams):
3 Game Series Home
3 Game Series Away

Other League (16 teams):
3 Game Series Home/Away (alternation each year)

No more 2 game series. Almost always a 3 game series. Its balanced home/away with your opponent except for the other league, but that's balance home away every 2 years.

The playoffs get easier too.

4 division winners, 2 wild cards, top 2 division winners get byes. Same as the NFL.

I completely agree that if another team goes into Texas it wont be in Austin or San Antonio but rahter somewhere in between to capitalize on both metros. Really too bad rangerettes already have the Texas terminology because it would work better for central Texas.
No way enough people travel from San Antonio and Austin to fill a stadium for 81 games.

Yeah i thought this was a good idea at one time. But if you use Hunter, TX as a reference point, downtown Austin and San Antonio are roughly 40 miles away. Even the outskirts of the big cities are 30 miles.

It's the equivalent to Conroe, texas city, mont belevieu and Waller.

Move A's to Vegas
Open new franchise in Nashville
Open new franchise in Mexico City

Profit!

Carlos can can come back for 1 year & 12 million and be the utility guy.

But seriously, if the deal falls through he's in bad shape. Like a real estate deal falling through after inspection. All subsequent buyers are super gun-shy..

And by "in bad shape" what I really mean is he will still make enough money to last him the rest of his life, but some lucky team will actually get him at a reasonable price.

I have worked there. Culturally it's a lot different and there are certain aspects of it (like the airport) that leave a lot to be desired, but I I wouldn't judge an entire city on its airport or worst parts (Chicago, Detroit etc.) & I don't think there would be any problems getting players to want to play there.

Guys from Venezuela and the Dominican and Cuba would consider Mexico City heaven compared to some of the stuff in their home countries. And the nicest parts of Mexico City are just as nice as any other big city I've ever seen.

Basic utilities, extreme pollution, questionable water, potential for being caught in cartel violence randomly, family targeted

Players don't come to the MLB to just have it better than what they came from….

Don't judge it based on what you've read. I have worked and lived there. And I know for a fact that you haven't.

Ballplayers aren't going to live in the most depressed parts of the city and what you're describing only applies to those.

The city wouldn't even be under serious consideration if what you think of it and reality were aligned

Largest Metros without a team:
  • Charlotte - 2.70 M
  • Orlando - 2.69 M
  • San Antonio - 2.60 M
  • Portland - 2.51 M
  • Sacramento - 2.41 M
  • Austin - 2.35 M
  • Las Vegas - 2.29 M
  • Columbus - 2.15 M
  • Indianapolis - 2.13 M
  • Nashville - 2.01 M
  • San Jose - 1.95 M
  • Virginia Beach - 1.80 M
  • Providence - 1.68 M
  • Jacksonville - 1.64 M
  • Raleigh - 1.45 M
  • Oklahoma City - 1.44 M
  • Memphis - 1.34 M

My thoughts on your list:
  • Ehh
  • Too close to Tampa which already sucks
  • Too close to Houston
  • That team already sounds sticky
  • no more CA
  • Too close to Houston
  • Will have the A's
  • No
  • already a lot around there
  • Yes
  • no more CA
  • ehh
  • too small
  • see orlando
  • raleigh is basicaly durham who has the bulls
  • too close to rangers
  • trash

Id put two new teams in Nashville and Salt Lake City, if non US then if go Montreal. Mexico City is a polluted trash heap no one would sign there.
While I would never want another MLB team in Texas, the only metropolises bigger than HOU (NY, LA, CHI) have 2 teams each, I don't think MLB will say 200 miles is too close for a team.

ETA: plus MLB loves to do things to F/ck with us

I wanna hear so much more.

This is a crazy situation and while I really do hate it for Carlos at the same time I love it for Boras.

Was the contract signed? I assume it was if they're introducing him.

If so is it now void? Does SF get a exclusive negotiating window or does he go straight to the FA pool?

What the hell came up so late and how did it get missed until now?

Thinking of major cities without teams

Salt Lake- could work, need more teams out west instead of east coast
Austin- yes but as stated Houston and Texas would fight it
New Orleans- no chance in hell
Charlotte- I just don't see it but it's a possibility
Vegas- Yes likely A's
San Jose- possibility
Indianapolis- way too crowded of a region
Oklahoma City could be an option.

Portland was mentioned as well which would also make sense.

While I would love for OKC to have a team since I live here, there is no way it can support an MLB team. Attendance would likely be worse than the Rays.

You can't compare a new team to old traditional teams. This day in age if the Yanks were established they would have never allowed the Mets to be formed. Same if you consider the Cubs allowing Sox

Cali isn't much of a comparison either because they're still spread out.

Also the congestion of those traditional areas doesn't compare to the population of Central Texas or OKC

It seems that an MLB team in Mexico City would do a lot of damage to the Mexican League. Would that be a consideration in placing a team there?

Nashville and Vegas 100 percent
really its Nashville plus another not named Vegas since the A's will likely be there soon anyway.

I work in an industry that deals with the pro leagues - MLB, NBA and NHL. The biggest thing they (along with the NFL) are looking for in expansion cities is the commitment to build (or have an existing) a world class facility. That is where Vegas has really stepped up. Any city that is considered for a new MLB team will need to bring the resources for a top flight stadium.

More money in Nashville than Charlotte.

I have no specifics but I always thought the Charlotte metro was loaded with huge banking operations and similar. I would they they are wealthier than Nashville

That is so cheap. We should have done this deal. He would have been a fantastic bench hat and utility player. Much better than a certain 39 year old we're considering.

We could have had Aledmys back for cheaper than that, too. Diaz, presumably is going to become an everyday player...this guy is basically gonna cost more to be a bench guy?

This guy could platoon with Brantley and could easily play over 100 games with as much rest as we give players. 122 wRC+ over the last 2 years and he only costs 8.5 M. Just think how clutch he would be if there was an injury. Diaz has been under 100 = below avg the last 3 seasons. It's not even comparable.

Where have you seen that he's a free agent again? Only report is that they delayed the intro due to medical flag. And yes, it's been talked about for pages.

Was coming to say the same.

Quote:

One person confirmed that Tuesday's conference to welcome Correa was put on hold because the sides were awaiting the results of testing. A second person said that a medical issue was flagged during Correa's physical.
