Listening to baseball is dead and they're discussing JV & deGrom.
Who do you think has a better 2023 & 2024?
Both healthy, the answer is deGrom IMO. Based on recent history, the answer is JV. I could see arguments from either, but gun to my head, I think my pick is deGrom.
I agree and also deGrom should have an easier schedule facing the AL West (minus us of course) but the Rangers bully could blow a lot of potential wins for him too.
It really depends on how the Mets handle him, they are doing work on the bull pen and currently have 6 or so starting capable pitchers (Sherzer, Verlander, Quintinnia, Carrasco, MeGill, and Peterson) They also have Luchesi but he has worn his welcome out. Rumor is the Mets are still going after the Japanese Pitcher so that would probably move Peterson or MeGill (or both) to the pen to fill the Lugo role. So it seems like the Mets are going for quality and depth to keep the rotation fresh if that is the case then I say JV.
DeGrom has been one of my favorite pitchers but looking at the Ranger's pen they will lean heavy on the rotation, and down the stretch for the Mets DeGrom got shelled in several games and pushed his ERA north of 3.00 for only the second time in his career. DeGrom had three straight years he pitched in over 200 innings (2017 to 2019), since then he has not pitched more than 92 innings in a season (granted one was plague year). Personally I hope he gets back to his old form but I fear that the trend continues as Bochy let's his starters work and that can lead to DeGrom getting worn down quickly. Hope I am wrong as two competitive teams in Texas would be exciting. That and I am a Mets and Giants fan so I want to see Boch and DeGrom succeed
