What has drastically changed?

They let go of their GM and an assistant GM. Other than that everyone is the same.

Bagwell is an advisor. He isn't making any organizational decisions. He's providing input on a game he knows very well.

This team has gotten better and they'll continue to get better.

It's about Bagwells comments. Do you not agree what he said could be taken as drastically different than what built this run?

Drastically different? Different sure, not drastically though, at least the way I read it. And if crane all of a sudden gives bags ultimate authority (sole gm power) then ill be worried. Till then level up sqaured

It's a different perspective sure but I don't see that they've made any widespread changes in their approach. It's not like we fired all our nerds and hired back a bunch of old scouts to do boots on the ground eye test scouting.

It's just one piece of the puzzle and he's once voice at the table. Just like one stat is. It's a piece and a tool.

I like having a guy with that perspective around and it's a guy who knows his shlt and cares about the success of the organization. It's not some outsider Crane brought in on a whim to change the course of things.

The hand wringing with every change gets old.

Rather bold message to win a World Series and fire your GM. With the amount of talent under control for the next two to three years, Astros should seriously contend for more WS titles. Good to see ownership isn't content to milk having won a couple.

Rizzo then Abreu as 1B target made perfect sense.

Contreras, Nimmo make sense as well.

Only name so far that's questionable is Bellinger.

More I think about it, more I like Conteras. Split DH duties with Yordan and C with Maldy. Then you could look for a cheaper corner outfielder to split starts in LF with Yordan.

Which brings me to - how much do we think Uncle Mike would cost to re-sign?

Surely Y Diaz and Leon factor into 2023?

Bellinger as buy low candidate I get, if he doesn't pan out DFA him and give Leon the chance. Just way too much a dbag.

Gallo batting 8th hitting .200 and 35 HRs would be just fine

Replacing it with a 400 x 200 foot poster of Drew Gilbert.

This is where I think the scandal helps us. Had we not been scapegoated I'm not sure Crane is as aggressive. I'm sure he would still try to win but there would be so many feel good stories written about the Astros (instead of hate pieces) that there would be an easy tendency to rest on one's laurels.

Installing super high powered cameras to continue the cheat!!! At least that's what I'm expecting to see speculated.

Everything I've heard the last 5-7 years is the Astros were ahead of most of the MLB in analytics and that is why they've been so successful.

Bagwell's comments tell me he isn't sold on that approach. I find that concerning but hopefully Crane knows what he is doing.

For a guy who says he doesnt want to be a GM Bagwell sure is talking like a GM.

I'm late to comment on this, but I thought Bagwell's comments were weird. The team is on the greatest run it's ever had and he's talking like they did something wrong.

This is an old move. You talk good about the hot girl to her friends but then make it be known to everyone you don't want her and wouldn't actually date her.

She soon comes calling. Bags know's what he's doing.
Its a move used by unconfident men and only works on insecure women.

Bags is enough of a man to go after what he wants without slinking around.

Is Bagwell saying get rid of the analytics?

I don't think that's what he's saying, but it sure sounds that way here.

He's just saying you have to take the human part of it also. If he's saying get rid of analytics, then I'm reading stuff wrong.

Basically he wants Lunhow because he married those two concepts perfectly, he just had blurred ethical lines.

So, just go get a Lunhow with good ethics/morals. Easy .

The full sound bite from Bagwell is much better than the snippet that the media posted.

Bagwell loves analytics for pitchers. For hitters he doesnt like it when they are thinking about launch angle while they are struggling at the plate.

We need to find the full audio.

Exactly and he's not saying not to provide hitters information. Hell, Alvarez was watching his previous plate appearances against Robbie Ray on an iPad while he was warming up in the 9th in game 1. I think that worked out pretty well.

Fair enough

I just think some are being quick to jump to the cliff.

We show no signs of slowing down and continue to add quality pieces.

I did hear Bagwell did say he doesn't wanna hear about windows. He wants to win every year and look not only in the present but in the near future and far out future. He doesn't buy into windows.

When we start to see a regression then I'll be worried but until that happens it's onward and upward and I don't see anything Bagwell included that's gonna slow this train down.

Even if we keep the 6 man rotation, no way everyone stays fully healthy. Maybe just want another body to eat some innings. I think I would prefer to bring up someone like Tamarez, Dubin, or even Whitley when the time comes. Throw them in the fire and see what happens. That's how we ended up accelerating Garcia & Javier's development in 2020.

My opinion is that somebody not as smart as others are making moves. My opinion is that the 3-year / $30 million they gave to Montero is way out of line. Even though he had a great year, he is a total luxury and is the 3rd or 4th guy that goes 1 inning max....I think he pitched about 70 innings last year. Unless somebody can say that spending that $10 million / $30 million will have absolutely zero effect on what you offer/pay folks in the future.....aka the pie is just getting bigger....or if you are planning on trading some of the pitchers that come in later than him......then I say it was a bad move. If Tucker's offer was not way out of line and he would have accepted it with some this Montero money in it, they should have done that.

Maybe the Astros have a bigger plan and aren't done...and maybe they are going to trade some guys...like Pressly....then maybe as a piece of the overall plan, it might make sense.

The only way the above makes sense is we are planning to convert Abreu to a starter (which means bye bye JV) which turns Montero into the 8th inning setup guy, still not sure it's worth as much as we paid but it's getting closer.

I do not understand why they would try to turn him into a starter. He's got future closer stuff. He was lights out as a reliever. Why mess with that?

And we ain't trading Pressly.

Please no Abreu as a starter. He was nails coming out of the BP and I could see him being the closer when Pressly is gone.
Farmer1906

There has been no indication that Abreu will be a starter, Pressly will be traded, or that Montero's role will change from the 8th inning even if Abreu is better.
