I'm still so pumped about Jose Abreu.

Over the last 3 seasons, here is where he ranks for first basemen.
WAR - 9.4, 3rd
wRC+ - 137, 4th
wOBA - .366, 4th
Barrels - 117, 7th
Hard Hits - 565, 3rd
Exit Velo - 92.2, 3rd
SLG - .489, 8th
OBP - .366, 4th
AVG - .289, 3rd
RBI - 252, 3rd
R - 214, 5th
HR - 65, 7th
PA - 1600, 4th

He's mostly behind Freddie Freeman & Paul Goldschmidt and sometimes Vlad Jr. For the counting, Alonso & Olson get up there too.

From a value standpoint, here is how he compares to his peers.
Freddie Freeman - 27 M, 162 M, age 32-37
Paul Goldschmidt - 26 M, 130 M, age 31-36
Joey Votto - 22.5 M, 225 M, age 30-39
Matt Olson - 21 M, 168 M, age 26-35 (bought out 2 years of arb)
Anthony Rizzo - 20 M, 40 M, age 33-34 (option for 1 more and will lower AAV to 17 M)
Jose Abreu - 19.5 M, 58.5 M, age 36-38

Let me break down the Verlander situation for you guys that don't understand.

Kate: "Hey sweetie, can you sign with the Dodgers next year? It's a lot closer to home and all my friends are there. Houston is kind of boring."

Justin: "Hey sugar azz, the Astros have won 2 World Series since I've been there and those guys are awesome. Just a couple more years in Houston, OK?"

Kate: "Pretty please?"

It's worth it to upgrade those to the lower sections and just pay the difference.

That's we always do

it was my first time experiencing astros buddies since 1977.

Put it this way, Yordan would have had to hit the HR first the Mariners another 100 feet to get close to our seats.

Harkes was the team captain, a very good player, that the team wanted around.

Bellinger is not good and I highly doubt anyone on the Astros wants him around. The situations are not remotely similar.
Harkes was an absolute POS that boned his best friend's wife. Bellinger is just a dumb stoner that ran his mouth.

Bellinger has been injured obviously but is theoretically in his physical prime & three years removed from being the league ufcking MVP.

Harkes was nearing retirement and was playing in the MLS, which at the time was just about the worst pro top tier league in the world.

The big question is whether Bellinger still has anything left in the tank. But you're right, the situations are nothing alike. But I suspect for different reasons than you think.

No one despised an opponent more than MJ/Pippen despised Dennis Rodman back in the 90s. But no one understood better than MJ/Pippen that Rodman brought a skillset the team needed to win more rings. They made it work.

Differences can easily be put aside by competitors who want to better their chances of winning. But the fair question remains whether or not Bellinger helps us win in any material way.

3 years removed from mvp is another way to say he's sucked butt for 3 years. The sign stealing crackdown and non nuclear balls destroyed him. All those homers became warning track fly balls so he started flailing more. F that guy. I'd rather take the flyer on Gallo. And I'd hate to get Gallo.

This x10.

Mike Fiers is just four years removed from being 15-4. And I'm sure he's available. Anyone?

Fiers is 37 and was never an all star much less a league MVP. But tell me more about pitcher wins and losses!

Don't get me wrong, I agree that Bellinger is probably done playing at that level.

My points are simply:

1. If the price is right why not take a shot?

2. Being an entry-level dewsh not going to stop anyone from signing him.

Think if it only had 20 teams. Could almost be a Championship level league.

Now imagine the outcry had Bellinger been with the Astros during that time and now and his recent numbers.

Those numbers are so telling in regards to how many teams were involved and using different techs while ball was juiced.

In fact, the Dodgers are kings of doing really well when the whole worlds not watching and then crumbling when in playoffs and more eyeballs are watching. Seems more than just odd

Pretty solid and growing league. Valuations are steadily climbing and the product has been improving. LAFC is nearly a billion dollar club now.

I'm starting to look at JV like Correa. Correa left for the money and we got a rookie who did one helluva impersonation of Carlos.

We just so happen to have a rookie who also does one helluva impersonation of JV named Hunter Brown.

Who knows, maybe lightning in a bottle twice but the good news is we don't need the lightning, we just need a glowstick.

Agree with this, my only question is who would be the dog in the clubhouse? We have plenty of guys who lead by example, most of them probably. Who is the guy that will stand up and say, "if you don't know the facts then you need to shut the **** up"? Correa, gone. JV, probably gone.
Lance? If he weren't playing baseball he's probably be a serial killer somewhere.
Not advocating for anything or anybody I just think you need that guy in the clubhouse and I don't know who it would be. We've had it during this run and we had it in the success of the early 2000's with Jeff Kent.

Maldy and Framber

Just watch their reactions when we swept NY in the ALCS. Those guys are dogs.

And don't overlook Abreu. He's the new guy but he's a well respected vet a lot JV in 2017.

We said the same thing when we lost George and again when we lost Correa. This team shuts a lot of people up by winning and I have a feeling we're gonna do A LOT of it.

Don't forget Bregman too, he has a LOT of dog in him and is one of the few still around from '17.

Right now it's Dusty. I think he sets the tone in the clubhouse and we've got some gritty player leaders who enforce it.

Not sure about the media but I do think that Maldonado is one of the main vocal leaders in the clubhouse. It's the reason why Dusty is so dedicated to him. He has the experience and he is one of the main guys that communicate easiest when multiple cultures. How many guys for Latin American on our current staff use an interpreter? Obviously Tuve doesn't need one but his personality is a little bit more reserved.

The reason why I bring this up is Correa, for all his faults, was the one guy in the club house that could get the pulse of the entire team and translate it.

Maldy's definitely the leader in the clubhouse with his experience and ability to translate and communicate with the entire team easier. Whether he is the dog in front of the media or not is different story. But Maldy is the leader in the clubhouse and the reason why Dusty fights so hard for him, takes weight off Dusty.

The hard on for Bellinger is very bizarre.

He was routinely rightfully laughed at all year on this thread. Now people think the Astros need him?

No one on Astros gives 2 craps about him. Let that loser revive his career with the DBacks

The soccer guys wanted Harkes on team, right? Who wants Bellingwe signed? No one. He sucks

He's a tool no matter anyone says in my mind and I think he's trash.

But, if you've been paying attention to what's been going on with trades/non trades that almost happened or signings that did or didn't happen and with Click leaving, there's one person who's making the last call on who should or shouldn't be in the clubhouse right now and his name is Dusty Baker.

Any team with Breggman and Maldy on it, I'm not worried about not having enough dog in the locker room.

Plus even the young guys like Tucker, Yordon , Pena - they've been part of such a strong locker room that they are honestly more mature than their years

This is an old move. You talk good about the hot girl to her friends but then make it be known to everyone you don't want her and wouldn't actually date her.

She soon comes calling. Bags know's what he's doing.

I take it as a team thats on a constant mission to be the best. They won, they celebrated its done and a new goal is in view. Everyone sees room for improvement in the process.

What has drastically changed?

They let go of their GM and an assistant GM. Other than that everyone is the same.

Bagwell is an advisor. He isn't making any organizational decisions. He's providing input on a game he knows very well.

This team has gotten better and they'll continue to get better.
