Perez should accept the QO. 2023 is a prove it year. Prove the success from 2022 is sustainable and earn the multi-year deal

Only way I'd touch 4yrs/$150MM for deGrom is if the last year is a team option or there are no player opt-outs.
He'll be 35 years old during the 2023 season and has averaged less than 75 innings over the last 3 years.

It'll probably take that to get him, but he's the textbook example of "high risk-high reward".
I'd do the same money (per season) for 3 years, but I'm not sure that would get him.

At lot of those slots will be filled by prospects who are Rule 5 eligible. Doesn't necessarily mean the Rangers are going to go out & sign a bunch of players.

I would be surprised if we signed more than two FAs, especially if one is deGrom.
I would too, but then they spent a half billion dollars on two players so I'm not 100% on what they won't do anymore.

Rumors are that DeGrom is going to demand 40-45M/ year. That's too much money for an injury riddled pitcher. I'd rather sign Senga and Rodon. I think Senga has the stuff to be a top of the rotation pitcher for sure.
Nobody should pay that much for a pitcher that has thrown for an average of like 70 innings over the last three years.

I for one would absolutely have interest in bringing back Joey. Especially at a bargain. We need to upgrade our defense at first and Joey may be able do that and/ or give us some flexibility in the OF.

With the move away from the shift, his avg will go up. He'll still strike out a lot, but he won a gold glove in the OF, has pretty good speed for a big guy, obviously has elite power potential.
I've seen worse ideas. I'd look for him to take a one year deal from someone, hoping to have a much improved season with the shift rules in place, and then try to cash in on a bigger season after the 2023 season.

It's hard to know how to feel on Perez. It would not surprise me whatsoever if he reverted back to the pitcher he's historically been next season. It's pretty rare that a guy in his 11th (I think) year turns the corner and figures it out.
With the QO I think I'm fine with whatever the outcome is. If he's back we'll see but getting a decent draft pick is also fine

I agree. I like the guy, but to get a longer term pricey deal, I'd need to see him do it again.

Perez has earned $35M, thus far and is 31.224 years old.
If he really feels like Texas is home and 2022 was Perez reaching his potential, then accepting the QO and delivering another year sets him up for a 3+ year contract after this season.
