Apparently they got a couple of good reports from his doc, who is apparently well known. At the same time, they say they have seen no scans nor did they do their own exam yet. And again, he looked sharp in 20 innings. So signs point to fine
The video wasn't as bad as I expected. They spent a fair amount of time talking about his surgery.
It sounded to me like they got caught unprepared for the question that it was a "minor" surgery. If Boras described it as such, they probably disagreed with the characterization. There was a question about the Labrum.
I was under the impression it was more of a major surgery and they were aware of it.
That was probably the 1st interview I remember seeing of Kip. He didn't seem as comfortable as CY in front of a camera. I don't mean this disparagingly, but he came across as a bit autistic. I come across that way when I'm talking about certain topics. He had way too much information that he wanted to share and was filtering it down as he spoke. It comes across as a factual bullet points.
CY helped repackage it. To ME... that interview looked like CY was the decision maker and pulled the trigger but didn't know enough about the background and scouting and wanted to rely on Kip. Kip was the brains and CY was the mouth.
I have a feeling scouting prospects and the draft are not a strong suit for CY. He may be a little more hands-off. He used a lot general references to who Rocker was, whereas, Kip referenced actually scouting points like "I've seen him pitch 7 times in person."
JD did better when he trusted his scouting team and didn't try to look like he actually did the scouting.
I'm still positive about the picks.
