One of if not the best pitching prospects in the draft and we got him in the 4th. Hopefully he signs. May come away with the 2 best pitchers in this draft.

It is a double-edged sword. If the Rangers are the only ones that saw him as a SP, it speaks to their scouting that he is in fact a RP. He was undrafted out of HS and was a RP for two years in an otherwise little known school.

He was a project at best as a SP who didn't have a consistent repeatable delivery to be an every 5th day SP.

Soto is Arb3 and Arb4. He is making $17M this year. For a ballpark, let's say he gets what Corbin is getting and the net-cost for the Rangers is $50M ('23) and $70M ('24)

You've just solved two problem. At a minimum, Corbin becomes an Innings Eater @ #5. You've added an extra IP to the GS helping the BP. If he becomes a change-of-scenery guy and does what Verlander did when he left Detroit for the Astros... could be a nice addition.

1. Jack Leiter <- Not going anywhere
2. Josh Jung <- Injured.
3. Ezequiel Duran (23-SS/3B, AAA) - .258, 2 HR @MLB

Like I've said, you could take on Soto for the next 2 years, knowing you have Adolis with Soto and Calhoun/Taveras. If you wanted to, you could dump Soto after the '23 season, when the price gets too high.

Once he fell past 15, it likely would've taken a high amount of slot money to sign him. Teams didn't want to take that risk and/ or didn't have the slot money available. With the rangers getting a 2.5M discount on Rocker's slot and not having a 2nd and 3rd round pick it gave them them the ammo to throw big money at him.

Chris Young has absolutely killed it since coming on board.

I'm starting to get confused. After taking Porter and seeing he expects 3.7 million, that would leave us with around 700k. Since taking Porter, we've taken 3 legit players that are going to have leverage, meaning we can't just sign them for the minimum. Weird, I would have expected a college senior or two by now.

What a freaking draft.

We got the #1 Pitcher in 2021, #2 Pitcher in 2021, and the #1 Pitcher in 2022. Who knows if they will amount to much, but damn our farm system is stacked now with top end talent in the infield and pitching prospects!

That Jon Heyman piece of the favorites to land Juan Soto is the first I've seen our name being mentioned to land him. If, and it's a big if, we can get him for our middle infielders (Fescue, Duran, and Smith) and one of our big Pitching prospects (Winn), then wow.

If that's the case, I'm not sure I would do that. I'd hate to give up Leiter or Jung. But I know we'd have to give up something pretty substantial.

Jung is maybe, and that's a big MAYBE. Leiter should be untouchable, especially since pitching is the biggest need in this organization.

Given that the Nats want to possibly package Soto and Corbin, that's a lot of $$$ to take on. So I could see the Rangers putting together a package that looks like

Smith or Duran
Winn or Ragans
Foscue
Huff

Then 2023 would look like

SP1 - Perez
SP2 - Gray
SP3 - Dunning
SP4 - Corbin
SP5 - Otto/Moore/Rocker/Leiter

Yep that's the real mystery - Jung's health. We've yet to see him play, while Smith and Duran both have meaningful playing time
