The key to what you said is "70 games in". Saying the signings are going to "kill this franchise" is ridiculously premature. There numbers aren't nearly as bad as they look superficially when you consider that numbers are down across MLB.

Yes 70 games in and neither one have come through late in a game, Semien's complete loss of power in one off-season, Seager's inconsistent defense and average way down at the plate. Color me concerned. I get the numbers are down across mlb, but they still rank 16th and 17th in WAR at their respective positions and the rest of MLB isn't making half a Bill either.

Semien has 7 HR with all of them coming in the past 30 games. His 162 game average is 25.

Great and I've said Semien seems to be turning things around at the plate of late. BUT we're not paying him
to hit his career average of 25.

He is who he is. We probably overpaid for him but it's not end of the world bad. Seager is a little more of a concern because we need his average but as someone has already said numbers are down this year, it could just take him a little to adjust to the new ball.

Neither of these signings will cripple the franchise. We are much better this year vs last year, 25-45 last year vs 34-36 this year. Pitching is a big reason but offensively we are doing better as well.

And to add to this we still have money to spend.

This year is definitely a statistical anomaly for Seager. He'll get it figured out, but we'd rather see it sooner than later.

Offense on the whole is down this year. Even a guy like Juan Soto is only hitting .210 or so. I think things will level out over the course of the year.

I said it way earlier in this thread but Choo was terrible his first year but turned into a very nice player for us the rest of the contract. I fully expect the same for Semien and Seager. First years in a new organization can be rough for players.

There has been significant improvement in offensive rankings vs last year.

From bottom fourth to bottom third in the league after adding Seager and Semien? Two immaculate innings against us in the same game. Scoring 1, 0, and 3 in three of four against Detroit. Against a bad pitching Washington team scoring 1, 3, and whatever we get today, which isn't much against a 5.93 ERA starter. Sure numbers may say we aren't as bad as last year (which isn't a high bar), but the eye test of the offense comes up rotten.

This was a last place, horrible team in '21. Were some of you seriously expecting three FA signings to change it into a contender?

Pieces.of.the.puzzle. It's not a finished product yet. Hearn, Otto, Bush and others aren't likely to be with the Rangers when they are ready to contend. Semien & Seagar aren't a concern at this point, and I think they'll turn their seasons around. I would also add that having another consistent bat or two in the lineup that other teams have to worry about with make their numbers go up as well.

If you skim back a bunch of pages, there were a bunch of us who said before the season that this wasn't a contending team. Quite frankly, they've overperformed IMO. To be this close to a .500 club is a minor miracle. Going from worst to first is an anomaly, not a reasonable expectation.

At least we're getting to see tighter, better games on most days. Last season most of the games were over by the 4th inning.

While adding Garver, Semien and Seager to the line up. Offense is definitely hit or miss so far.

Nope. Semien and Seager continue to suck late in games. Happened again today. 8th inning, 1 on and no outs, Semien hits into double play and Seager then proceeds to K. I was as big a fan of the signings as anyone but they've both way underperformed their contracts 70 games in. Not sure how anyone could argue that.

Nobody is arguing that they have underperformed so far.....but we are less than half a year into year one. Can't see how you go from that to "these 2 contracts are going to kill this rebuild" so quickly.
