This was a last place, horrible team in '21. Were some of you seriously expecting three FA signings to change it into a contender?

Pieces.of.the.puzzle. It's not a finished product yet. Hearn, Otto, Bush and others aren't likely to be with the Rangers when they are ready to contend. Semien & Seagar aren't a concern at this point, and I think they'll turn their seasons around. I would also add that having another consistent bat or two in the lineup that other teams have to worry about with make their numbers go up as well.

If you skim back a bunch of pages, there were a bunch of us who said before the season that this wasn't a contending team. Quite frankly, they've overperformed IMO. To be this close to a .500 club is a minor miracle. Going from worst to first is an anomaly, not a reasonable expectation.

At least we're getting to see tighter, better games on most days. Last season most of the games were over by the 4th inning.

I was expecting our BA to be more than .004 points higher than last years historically bad Rangers team.
Were you expecting BA's to be down across all of baseball? Because they are.

Nobody was "expecting" an increase of only .004 - but in a season where averages are down everywhere, that's actually extremely encouraging.

Yes I know hitting is down everywhere, but I still expected more to this point. Let me rephrase. I expected to have better than the 23rd highest BA in the league.

I don't think it's a reach to say the offense has been a letdown this year.

0-19 with RISP for the series.

Seems like this team plays great until they get to 2 games under .500. What is our record at that point in June? 0-4? 0-5? Maybe I'm inflating in my head but seems to be the point they lose 2 or 3 in a row.

That's the head scratching stuff with this offense that I'm talking about. 5 runs (for now...hopefully more) in a 3-game home series against a Nats team that does not have good pitching.

Terrible at bat. 3 straight balls not even close to the zone and Semien is up there hacking. No patience, just up there guessing.

Feels almost cruel by the universe when I see Semien come up in a clutch moment right now.

I know he's going to have big moments in a Rangers uniform but man, it's been brutal so far.

He swung at 3 pitches, 2 were out of the zone but one was close enough and the 3rd pitch he hit.

Guy just really hates Semien. He hasn't been near as bad as he tries to make everyone believe.

I don't hate Semien. This board is a frickin echo chamber. God forbid you criticize a player for not performing. Sure he hit a hard ground ball, but he also could've worked the count 3-0 and got a better pitch to hit or extended the inning to Seager.

All you do is complain and nit pick on him. Could he play better? Of course but it's not near as bad as you make it out to be.

Also the first pitch he swung as was a slider that was a little low not crazy out of the zone. The second pitch was bad but that's 1 out of 4 pitches that were bad.

Not to mention someone said the team was 0-19 with RISP are all those at bats Semien's?

Big difference is I haven't only defended him. Also you started this last night with your ridiculous statement and have continued today. Lately Semien is playing like the player we thought he would be. He started slow but has been pretty good lately. Seager is a bigger issue but you're stuck on Semien for some reason

Stuck on Semien? Maybe because you continue to drag this on and refuse to be critical of a guy that continues to suck in late innings. Had that been Seager, I would've said the same about him. Seager wasn't the one that ended the game.

When guys sign massive contracts and continue to struggle they deserve more blame and criticism imo. Idk why you dont understand that.
gigem1223
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyways I won't continue to drag this on. I hope Semien and Seager turn it around return to the players we expected to get. It's frustrating watching them fail time and time again when this team needs them to perform. Especially when we'd have a decent squad if they could turn it around.

On June 26, 2021. Odor was slashing .209/.264/.419

On June 26, 2022, Semien is slashing .227/.289/.350

Semein has been playing better than his typical career for the past 30 games or so. He just started EXTREMELY slow.

Seager continues to struggle badly. One of the reasons he signed with us was due to his love of batting at Globe Life Field but he hasn't been good.

I'm not as worried about Seager. He's still hitting for power and is 28. Semien, however, is 31 and up until the last month or so was hitting for very little power. Was hoping when we signed him that we'd catch a few years of his prime but it's not looking promising thus far.

So are their signings killing this franchise or not?

Seager is not know for his power. He is a high average hitter, .290 carreer but is only hitting .228. His previous career low was .267 but he only played in 26 games that year. Even with his HR his SLG is his second lowest and his OPS is his lowest.

Both players numbers are down but the difference is Seager started hotter and has faded lately while Semien start was putrid but he's been good lately.

I'm hoping Semien keeps it up and Seager can find his groove. If that happens the offense will be light years better than it is now.

Seager continues to hit the ball hard, he's been one of the most unlucky batters in baseball. Not worried about him turning it around. Semien however, ranks near the bottom of the league in average exit velocity.

Time will tell. Very early on. We need to understand that the lineup around Seager was incredible every year he was in LA. Our lineup compared to his LA teams is a joke.

Batting - 22nd
Pitching - 17th
Fielding - 24th

We have three pitchers doing well.

Perez - #2 in AL - elite
Dunning - #23 in AL - good
Gray - will come in around #25 when he qualifies - good

And then - nothing. Hearn failed. Otto looked horrible Sunday, although he'll get a few more chances. Allard again? The #4 and #5 starting jobs are what's killing us now.

They need to just do the surgery now. He's not performing with the kind of bat that will make a difference.

Isn't he a free agent to be after this season? I am sure he is ready to get the surgery and start the rehab, he's got to get healthy for a new contract.

He was just DH'ing anyway. Bring up Thompson, Huff, or whoever else to get some MLB ab's. Let's see who might be able to contribute in 2023.
