Is semien going to turn it around soon? I know it's only been 40 AB, but wow
Maybe the ranger second base position is cursed.

Maybe 2B is just a difficult position to play where the talent pool is thin.

Some people's baseball awareness is limited. But, that is ok.

Maybe MLB will actually notice this year how the NBA manages to play all weekday playoff games at night and still survives. But probably not. We'll still have noon playoff games on a Tuesday. I could swear the MLB just doesn't want fans to watch games.

It'll be worse this year with the compressed postseason. Because of the strike and new labor agreement, there will be a lot more games that have to be played in ten less days than pre-strike scheduling. Lot more day games this go around to fit them all in.

On a related note it is ridiculous that the majority of the teams in our division are on west coast time. The start times of any divisional games are gonna annoy either us or them

The divisions really need to be realigned as well as the leagues. Now that the DH is universal there's no reason to tie the Rangers and Astros to three west coast teams. It makes even less sense now.

Of course, looking at a map, the problem is that the east coast and Midwest are so covered in teams, it basically puts having a geographic balance and a numerical balance at odds and I think the end result would be that the Astros and Rangers likely still end up lumped in with west coast teams.

Hopefully, we will get realignment when the A's relocate but the following needs to happen:

Rangers
Asstros
Royals
Rockies
Nashville/San Antonio

Astros fan here and I completely agree with you. Just jotting down some potential divisions, I think this could work. This is basically going off of a map of where the MLB teams are located. No matter what Houston and Texas would have to travel quite a bit within division.

STUPIDLY WEST
Seattle
Oakland
San Francisco
LA Dodgers

WEST
San Diego
LA Angels
Arizona
Colorado

CENTRAL
Houston
Texas
Kansas City
Minnesota

MIDWEST
St Louis
Chicago Cubs
Milwaukee
Cincinnati

GREAT LAKES
Chicago White Sox
Cleveland
Detroit
Toronto

EAST
Atlanta
Tampa Bay
Miami
Washington
Baltimore

NORTHEAST
Pittsburgh
New York Yankees
New York Mets
Boston
Philadelphia

That would be ideal. I care less about the distance traveled and more about staying in the same time zone more. These west coast swings suck.

Yeah, they're awful, especially if you have to be up at an ungodly hour to get to work, like me.

To me the way I laid it out would almost eliminate AL and NL and you could go into a pod style schedule. But, the folks in the MLB would never let that happen, so we are dicked.

Haven't seen the lineups posted yet for tonight, but J. Gray is supposed to get the start tonight for the Rangers. Hopefully he can get us 5+ innings tonight, but he's coming off a blister issue and it's only start #2 for him coming off of a shortened Spring Training. So lets hope for 5 and forget the plus part.

At least the bullpen had the day off yesterday to rest up a bit

Damn. Just switched over from the Aggie game. Might be switching back to that blowout that's in my team's favor.

Go ahead and bring pitchers up from the minors. It literally can't be any worse than what we are throwing out there now

So outside of service time, what's the argument for not bringing up the young guys? Just not having them get beat up?

It's early, but we may end up having a WORSE record than last season

Mostly. It's a combo of baseball being very much a mental game where confidence is critical and you don't want to see guys start questioning themselves. And it's also learning to work hitters and work on command with somewhat of a training wheels approach. What you don't want is young guys that come up too soon, aren't ready, and they end up nibbling. You want them polished enough to be able to be aggressive and attack hitters successfully

That makes sense. Definitely don't want the young guys getting the yips.

Just gotta pray they hit on Leiter and Winn. If neither of these guys can help themthink DVD from the pastit's a killer for the entire organization. Of course, Kevin Brown and Kenny Rogers are the best pitchers from their farm system to develop for them as starters, and that was only 30+ years ago…

I remember the Rangers brought Derek Holland up too early and he turned out ok after awhile.

He turned out ok but never consistently reached the potential that he showed in flashes, then became a journeyman.

It seemed like he was turning the corner and then the tripped over his dog, then he literally fell off a cliff and sucked ever since.

"Tripped over the dog" was great code for playing hockey which wasn't approved in his contract.

Still think we will be pushing for .500. But it will take our pitching getting quite a bit better.

But who am I kidding, Holland should still always have a special place in Rangers fans hearts for 8.1IP / 0 ER / 7K in WS Game 4. Absolute gem.

His work in Game 4 of 2010 ALCS vs. NYY was also huge. That gave us a 3-1 series lead.

Edit: This is where we are as a franchise. Completely hopeless, no developed talent, nobody in the farm system outside of 1 guy, no front office understanding of baseball. So we reminisce about games from 10+ years ago.
