the home team is at a disadvantage in the 2-3-2 format...if they let the road team win game 1 or 2

It's incredibly hard to win 3 or 4 games in a row unless you have really good pitching. Neither of these teams have consistent, really good pitching. All they had to do was win 1 on the road, just as the disadvantaged team did.
They didn't do it and deserved to lose. Don't make excuses for the Padres.
