Seems like JV would be considered a FA since he signed as one last offseason


I was assuming it was based on how they were originally acquired. We traded for JV and resigned him twice. We found Altuve internally and extended him twice.

When Altuve said he was going to be a star just before the season started my first impulse was to think he was just saying something nice about the rookie. But then thinking about it, he probably wouldn't have said that unless he meant it, and he is highly qualified to make that judgement.

He wasn't drafted by them. He CHOSE to sign both his original and his new deal knowing full well the Angels are awful and have no clue how to run/build a winning team.

They controlled him next year. They avoided arbitration by signing him to $30 M. He would have gotten something similar regardless.
