Fall 82. I started with Jackie. The first game was a L. Gary Kubiak was out dueled at QB by some kid from Boston College named Doug Flutie.

My first Aggie football game was against Baylor in Waco in 1950. We* lost 27-20. It was the first year of Baylor Stadium which was about a half mile from our house. I was 8 and could ride my bike there and sit in the end zone for 50 cents.

*I was a diehard Aggie fan with a 1926 fish pennant on one wall and Cavalry Co B on the other.
So why did you switch over to the dark side?

You seem like a good dude and obviously you had an appreciation for mediocre football from an early age. You would've made a good Aggie.

A&M - Baylor in 05. Came from behind and eventually won in overtime. Shroeder had a big 3rd or 4th down catch on the last drive

I got messed around my senior year in high school. I got wait-listed by Rice engineering school. My parents wanted me to go there because we didn't have a lot of money and Rice was 100% free, and my backup was A&M. In June, Rice said engineering school was full, and I could go A&S and transfer after a year if I had the grades. As parents wanted me in engineering school I talked to A&M who said fine but dorms were all full. I had a friend who needed a roommate in a university approved dorm at UT, so I went there. It wouldn't have mattered much where I went. I was 17, immature and looking for a party. I hadn't learned how to study and hadn't needed to. Eventually I grew up a little. I still support A&M however because my dad was my hero, and he was an Ag.
