Maris set the record in 1961. Colt 45s started playing in 1962.
So that year the AL had a 162 game season but the NL played only 154. I had never realized this. I guess that had to amplify the controversy of Maris breaking the Babe's record by playing in a longer season.

I went to an Astros Royals game in KC in 2015, so I deserve some credit too
I threw out the first pitch at a game in 1992 and we've been to the World Series 4 times since then. Never went previous to me throwing out the first pitch.

Down from, what was it, 6 or 7 balls in a row and a little bit out of sorts. Maldy handles pitchers better than anyone in the majors.

Seriously. If those numbers are real (and I am on record that he's getting some help somehow) why would he retire? Two more years like this and he's got a shot at 755.
