when workers are offered more money and they still won't agree, you can't really blame management.
Its not that cut and dry. They are both at fault. Its a negoiation. I just wished they would have gotten off their ass and made something happen in Dec.BMX Bandit said:it is the players fault, so thats not going out on a limb.EastCoastAgNc said:

Fernando Tatis Jr.: "The International Draft is going to kill baseball in DR. It's going to affect us a lot, because there will be many young people who used to give them the opportunity to get a bonus and with the draft it will not be the same ”, per @ElCaribeRD. pic.twitter.com/KpUm6KEazb

It's a great time to sell live sports content to streamers. Apple (Friday doubleheader) and Peacock (Monday & Wednesday) will pay $115m for about 100 games per year of the deal https://t.co/QHpXLplAqF

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. But ultimately they want to drive people to their service and get people to sign up. Once signed up, people may not cancel. That is why MLB get can a premium deal.EastCoastAgNc said:It's a great time to sell live sports content to streamers. Looks like Peacock is getting exclusive games too...ugh...at least show them on MLB.tv
In MLB’s current proposal for an intnl draft, the top pick in a 20-round draft would receive $5.5M (up from $5.25M in prev proposal; comparable to ’21 slot value for the 7th pick in domestic draft), sources tell me and @Ken_Rosenthal
— Maria Torres (@maria_torres3) March 9, 2022
The bottom 100 slots in the international draft would be allocated about $3.3 million, for an average of 33k. Per MLB calculations, an average of $1.78M was spent on the bottom 100 bonuses in 19-20 and 20-21.

Ownership source on MLB offer: “I never thought they’d get to these levels.” Sure, consider source, but MLB is at $230M luxury threshold, $700K minimum pay, $40M bonus pool in 2022. Not long ago MLB was at $214M CBT (w/huge penalties), $605K min. bonus is new (good player idea)

What do we think is the driver for wanting an international draft? Why not work them into the draft that already exists? Make it where international signees have to register or something with the MLB to enter the draft, they must be say, 17, to be draft eligible and add extra rounds to the existing draft to account for this influx of extra prospects.Farmer1906 said:

If an agreement is reached today, the tentative plan is for Opening Day to be April 6-7, with the regular season extended by three days. The other missed games from the week-long delay would be made up in doubleheaders during the season.

Seems like are several reasons I see out there. Here are a few:Lonestar_Ag09 said:What do we think is the driver for wanting an international draft? Or here's a really crazy idea, focus on getting those kids some kind of education, help get them into colleges to play and then they would already enter into the real draft.
I've never really understood why baseball was so different from other sports in how it treats young international players.

Its like a team with 7 starters might have an advantage with all these doubleheaders and fewer off days. Do we know of any teams with 7 legit starters?CFTXAG10 said:

There is no excuse for a multi millionaire coming off of a surgery to not be ready and prepared, sure they took away the team training staff...you can afford your own to get YOUR body right and get it where it needs to be. If you dont do that, it is on you not the team.
In a voice message sent to a group chat that has been widely shared in Dominican baseball circles, David Ortiz, perhaps the most influential baseball voice in the country, came out strongly against the international draft, according to a copy of the message obtained by ESPN.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) March 9, 2022
Ortiz: “The system in the Dominican is not ready to have a draft next year. The Dominican is not the U.S. You can’t snap a finger and everything lines up to operate the right way. We’ve got a new president who’s trying to improve things. We need to do this slowly.”
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) March 9, 2022
Ortiz: “Baseball is such a big thing in the Dominican. Baseball keeps kids off the streets. We don’t want that to walk away from us. We want it to get better. That’s my focus. Nothing else. We have the youth. People wanting to be me, Pedro, Pujols. We can’t let that go away.”
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) March 9, 2022
Ortiz: “Baseball is one of the secret weapons of the Dominican economy. If you talk about a draft here in the states, you have choices. You can do football, basketball. You don’t have choices. Dominican has baseball to make your way out. That’s it. You have to be careful.”

NEW YORK — The most significant issue remaining in talks, although not the only, is said to be direct draft pick compensation, the elimination of the qualifying offer. The players want it, MLB has proposed it — but MLB wants the international draft, which is no small matter/give.

It could be a potential compromise. In return, there would no longer be any qualifying offers placed on free agents, requiring teams to surrender a potential draft pick. https://t.co/ObeyWeJUHQ
