Is it weird that hockey and soccer don't allow offside alignment?

Major League Baseball's newest TV partner: Apple.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) March 8, 2022
At the company's event today, it announced a deal with the league to carry a Friday Night Baseball doubleheader on Apple TV+ starting this season. Games will be exclusively broadcast on the streaming service.
Yes, but they are trying to get into live events. Think kinda like Hulu or Peacock.Farmer1906 said:
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't AppleTV more like Netflix? Just a collection of shows. It's not like YoutubeTV or FuboTV where its streams cable channels.

Streaming now costs more than cable by a long shot.
It'd be one thing if the leagues gave a **** about their viewers and weren't just trying to **** us. Let people get MLB.TV and be done with it....but nope, limit local teams on MLB.TV. Ok let me get a package with AT&T Sports. Still not good enough. Now you have to get Apple TV for those games, Prime for those, ESPN for those, etc., etc.EastCoastAgNc said:Farmer1906 said:I didn't know Peacock did live sports.EastCoastAgNc said:Yes, but they are trying to get into live events. Sadly I think that's how this was all going to end up. Move people away from aggregate services at a moderate cost only to charge them for many lower cost services presenting exclusive content. People don't consider the cost comparison until they start looking closely at their monthly CC statements.

Good news: Progress and compromises on both sides are being made in today’s MLB negotiations.
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) March 8, 2022
Cautionary news: It’s a similar sentiment of a week ago.
We’ll see if it culminates in a new CBA deal in the next 24 hours.
MLB’s proposed luxury tax thresholds now start at $230 million and run to $242 million, sources tell me and @ByMcCullough. But there remain strings attached to CBT and other issues players are concerned with in MLB’s offer. Full proposal not immediately known.
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
MLB’s proposal, sources tell me and @Ken_Rosenthal:
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
• Luxury tax thresholds: 230, 232, 236, 240, 242⁰
• Prearb pool: 40m, flat over time
• Pool counts against CBT (1.33m per team)
•Minimum salary: 700, 715, 730, 750, 770
(cont’d)
Another major part of MLB’s proposal: MLB is tying removal of the qualifying offer to instituting an international draft.
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
In MLB’s proposal, sources tell me and @Ken_Rosenthal, all rule changes MLB would want could be expedited, not just select ones like pitch clock, larger bases and shift. Can’t be expedited in season though — only in offseason
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
• Draft lottery at 6 picks. MLB was at 5 previously.
On service time, with @Ken_Rosenthal:
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
• Top 2 Rookie of Year vote getters can get a full year of service.
• A team that brings up a player for Opening Day can net 3 draft picks over time, one pick per year, if that player does well in voting
The MLB proposal tonight is for 12 playoff teams

I won't post the whole thread, but basically the players would only sign off on 14 if they did the ghost win thing, and the league didn't want to do that.
Union is expected to send counterproposal to MLB shortly. All this back and forth at this hour seems promising (though things also looked promising a week ago). The negotiating doesn’t stop at midnight assuming things are still progressing.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) March 9, 2022
MLB is still hoping to institute an international draft and will eliminate draft picks compensation for free agents if the union accepts that tradeoff. Still undecided, but it appears international draft has a chance to come to fruition.

So we have it here from a reliable source that tells us "I think we have an MLB deal by the morning." Talking about it now on @FoxSportsRadio.

Players still looking over MLB proposal.
— Michael Silverman (@MikeSilvermanBB) March 9, 2022
But, contingencies — like int’l draft & extra CBT surcharge — plus insufficient movement in other areas not leading to the conclusion they think a deal is close to being made.
Source: MLB officials are reviewing latest MLBPA counteroffer, with the possibility of a CBA deal before daybreak still alive. @MLBNetwork

A week ago, #MLB and the #MLBPA had a 16 1/2-hour marathon negotiating session in Jupiter, Fla.
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) March 9, 2022
Tonight in New York, they have hit the 15-hour mark.
MLB official says the Players Association requested to speak to its board again early tomorrow before coming back with a proposal, and the PA will be getting back to MLB tomorrow morning. So, to be clear, MLB is not canceling games at this moment right now.
— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) March 9, 2022
I have a good feeling about tomorrow. Of course, this isn’t the first time I’ve had a good feeling about this.
