MLB is now beginning to study the players union's formal written response to MLB's last offer

International draft “non-starter” for Latin players and might not be acceptable to union even with major MLB give, sources tell @TheAthletic. Union in latest proposal still wants qualifying offer eliminated, as well as higher CBT thresholds and pre-arb pool than MLB has offered.

Predictable
Hearing big gaps still exist following the union counteroffer. Discouraging news for those hoping for deal today. Resistance is strong to international draft. @Ken_Rosenthal mentioned multiple other differences.

Deja Vu. Another marathon negotiating session one night, followed by another day of little progress the next. The international draft still is that huge boulder standing in the way in these talks.

Really don’t feel like this concept is that hard to grasp.

The MLB owners want to make players look bad by adding things (that most fans don’t generally care/know much about,) late that they know players will decline, which will cause fans to turn their backs on the MLBPA.
The union's CBT proposal should read:
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) March 9, 2022
$232M, $235M, $240M, $245M and $250M.
So the union lowered the pre-arb pool bonus by $5 million from previous proposal and lowered the overall CBT threshold by total of $49 million over the course of the five-year deal. https://t.co/58SfvC1eGj
The MLBPA's proposal for the pre-arbitration pool starts at $65 million, and increases $5 million per year.

MLB's proposal is $40 million for all five years.
This. A deal is there to be had if either side gave a damn about something bigger than themselves.Marvin said:EastCoastAgNc said:
Owners gave in a bit, now the players are digging in. Screw both sides.
Ownership source indicates league previously thought there was a trade ready to be made: International draft in exchange for direct draft pick compensation. Union is not there on the draft. 1/3
— Jesse Rogers (@JesseRogersESPN) March 9, 2022
Second option: Do the entire package without the draft which means without draft pick compensation.
— Jesse Rogers (@JesseRogersESPN) March 9, 2022
Third option: Take the original deal. League gets the international draft and draft pick compensation is eliminated. 3/3
MLB has canceled more games, pushing Opening Day to April 14. The players rejected MLB’s options, and sent back a counter proposal. That counter was not enough to convince owners not to bring down more games.

The counterproposal players of the three options MLB proposed, per source: Parties have until Nov. 15 to agree to an international draft. If they don’t agree on it, then qualifying offer returns after 2022-23 offseason and international system also returns to status quo.

At this point I think we should refrain from hope until we get an announcement on deal being reached. This is the 2nd time we have heard it's close and then the next day it's not
Players made an offer late today: They’d spend the season working on a world draft and if it didn’t work out, qualifying offers/free agent comp would be re-installed at year’s end. This was Manfred’s idea Tuesday night but was rejected because it came after MLB’s 6 pm deadline.

how could the MLBPA do this?!?!?

I was in FL. We never offered the Int’l Draft. We did discuss it, but MLB told us they were NOT going to offer anything for it. At that point, we informed all players & agreed to no draft.

This is MLB muddying the waters & deflecting blame. Fans, pls hang in there with us.

Enough. After almost 100 days of the MLB lockout, it’s time to reconsider MLB’s special antitrust exemption, which allows them to act as a lawful monopoly. Fans across America deserve better.

Message to the owners: unlock the lockout and play ball.
