When the DH become universal he won't be hitting in either leagueTarponChaser said:bearkatag15 said:
What does being on an NL team matter anymore for ZG?
Grienke has always considered himself more of an all around ballplayer than just a pitcher. He wants to hit.
Remember, he was a SS in HS and I can't remember if he'd already been in the majors for a while or if it was late in the minors but he wanted to quit pitching, go back to lower-class ball and come back up as a SS.
The way its being thrown around it sure seems like its the main thing that is changingredline248 said:Is full DH a sure thing?bearkatag15 said:

#MLB Qualifying Offer Candidates ($18.4M)

ATL: Freeman
BOS: JD Martinez, E. Rodriguez
CIN: Castellanos
CHW: Rodon
COL: Story, Gray
HOU: Correa
LAD: Seager, Taylor, Kershaw
MIL: A. Garcia
NYM: Conforto, Syndergaard
OAK: Canha
SF: Belt, Desclafani
TOR: Ray, Semien, Matz
He said he wanted to give the younger guys a chance, and if he stayed, someone would poach them. He feels like he's done all he can here. Mentioned he didn't like the year round travel. I think he takes a consulting position if he doesn't completely retire. The man is 73, I don't fault him for wanting to hang it up one bit.iamtheglove said:
I was perplexed by Strom's interview posted on the Astros website. He seemed to waffle and mentioned being open to being a pitching coach for another organization. But said definitively that he would not be back with the Astros. Anyone else get the vibe that he wasn't happy here or maybe didn't click with Click (or Dusty)?
Bryant is better, but Taylor isn't bad.Ag_07 said:
How do they compare offensively?
When was the last time we signed a guy who got a QO?Farmer1906 said:Why are you so convinced that is true?MaxPower said:
Semien, Seager and Story will get QO's so you can cross them off the list. Baez is your best bet and the article previously posted projects he will get less than $100M. He's about average defensively but obviously the bat has some serious power. You can't help but think there's some upside if he could learn to lay off some pitches.
I'd still put the odds on Peña.

I'd like us to make a run at Rodon as well. LH Aces with his stuff are unfair.

1) Esteemed pitching coach Brent Strom will retire.
2) Zack Greinke will leave the Astros but wants to continue pitching for an NL team.
3) Dusty Baker will be back, and sign a contract for 2022 in the next 48 hours.
Don't forget that Pedro Leon can also play OF. If both him and Pena end up being the best out of the young prospects, they could both be on the field at the same time with Pena at SS and Leon in CF.tjack16 said:
This would be my potential lineup
1. Altuve
2. Tucker
3. Bregman
4. Alvarez
5. Gurriel
6. Brantley
7. Siri / Meyers
8. Diaz / Leon/ Pena
9. Maldonado / Castro / Lee
I think Bregman will have a nice bounce back so I'd put him at the 3 hole until it becomes an issue. I also suspect either Yuli or Mike might have a regression at some point due to age.
Who I would try to sign:
- Noah Syndergaard
- Kris Bryant (slide Bregman to short)
- another solid bullpen arm

When we traded for him last year, he was on a 2 yr contract with the Reds and was DFA'd. We picked him and that contract up. I think since he came from overseas, he was technically not on the arbitration clock.Coby said:texasaggie2015 said:

Brooks Raley is not a free agent. He's got 3 more arbitration years through 2025. Am I missing something here?

So what kind of deals are 29/30 year old players like those two going to get? I ask b/c at some point, if the years/dollars required start to get up there, wouldn't a team just be better off with the younger player in Carlos?
Obviously, a team has to pinpoint the cutoff mark for it to make sense, though.
I know there are salary numbers in your pics...but I don't know how relevant they will be to this year's free agency market.
