If we let Correa walk to rely on Diaz/rookies, we better make some splash signings at pitcher.

This would be my potential lineup

1. Altuve
2. Tucker
3. Bregman
4. Alvarez
5. Gurriel
6. Brantley
7. Siri / Meyers
8. Diaz / Leon/ Pena
9. Maldonado / Castro / Lee

I think Bregman will have a nice bounce back so I'd put him at the 3 hole until it becomes an issue. I also suspect either Yuli or Mike might have a regression at some point due to age.

Who I would try to sign:
- Noah Syndergaard
- Kris Bryant (slide Bregman to short)
- another solid bullpen arm

Vaya con Dios, Carlos. Who would you like to see replace him? (Taken from Wabs' link on pg.2) Who would we be even able to afford if the tax is lowered?

SHORTSTOPS

Marcus Semien (31, 7.8 WAR)
Trevor Story (29, 6.0)
Corey Seager (28, 5.5)
Javier Bez (29, 3.6)
Jos Iglesias (32, 2.6)
Freddy Galvis (32, 2.0)
Andrelton Simmons (32, 0.0)
Pete Kozma (34, 0.0)
Deven Marrero (31, 0.0)
Andrew Romine (36, -0.3)
Diaz / Bregman

How much does Marcus Seiman going to cost on a 1/2 year deal.

Semien, Seager and Story will get QO's so you can cross them off the list. Baez is your best bet and the article previously posted projects he will get less than $100M. He's about average defensively but obviously the bat has some serious power. You can't help but think there's some upside if he could learn to lay off some pitches.

I'd still put the odds on Peña.

Most important question -- by far -- is who replaces Strom. Our pitching went from average to finishing 1 and 2 in the Cy Young Award with pitchers that the rest of the league thought were just above average. Luis Garcia is pitching like an ace, he plucked Maton out Cleveland...the list goes on. I'm nervous about this one.

He's about average offensively too.

Last 3 years.

.261 AVG
.303 OBP
.486 SLG
.789 OPS
104 wRC+

For 23 M a year I want more.

Why are you so convinced that is true?

I can't see the Astros taking Baez. He doesn't fit in with what the team looks for in someone at the plate. He's not a patient hitter and doesn't draw walks.

If we follow Strom's advice it will be Bill Murphy and Josh Miller.

I still like a Kris Bryant signing.

Play him at 3B, OF, or DH to rest whoever needs it.

Maybe Bregs can play SS if he and Diaz split time and keep both of them fresh. He can play 3B if Bryant is playing elsewhere.

I think that is the most obvious lineup at this point.

Bregman's mobility has taken a pretty big step back. I can't see him slider back to SS at this point in his career.

I agree about Gurriel & Brantley, but they're both in the last year of their deals. The '23 offseason is the year to shop big bats at a discount. Someone like a Josh Bell or Kyle Schwarber.

Hell no on Baez. Give me Bregman or Diaz at short over him at the cost he will command.

and figure that Brantley will play in about 120 games again and Yuli about 130.

Diaz will miss some time too. Click needs to think about a backup option at first base

Here is the full details - https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/qualifying-offer

Basically, its around 18-20 M for a 1 year deal. They 99% reject it. We get compensated with a draft pick between the 1st and 2nd round. If you're a luxury cap breaker than you the draft pick is worse. You sign a guy who's rejected an offer then you give up a draft pick.

We 100% should offer Correa and 99% should offer JV. Both will reject it. We should get 2 draft picks. We go out and sign someone who rejected it, we will still come out on top.

This dude showed some really good stuff at times and then we just demolished him the other times... seemed like he was going 6 of 3-4 hit 1 run ball or out of the game by the 4th the last 2-3 years (maybe longer?) with the Mariners. I did find it interesting when his 4 seam fastball velo was up to like 96-97 starting late last year or early this year. seemed to help all of his secondary pitches.

If Correa doesn't resign he is heading the following imo:

AL
Texas
Detroit
Toronto
Boston

NL
Phillies
Dodgers
Atlanta
Cubs

I think those are the 8 most logical landing spots Imo but I think Philly is going to be the choice personally
looking at this list...

the Red Sox have Bogaerts under contract for $20 MM per year thru 2025. Boston is getting great value from his contract. Also from Devers. They should be looking to spend elsewhere.

regarding the Tigers...Correa is a big advanced metrics guy. Going from the Crawford Boxes to Comerica Park for 10+ years seems like a bad career move for a right-handed hitter. SLG & OPS will suffer

well if we're gonna have extra money, throw enough of it at Smoltz so he thinks hard about leaving the booth.

Can I offer you Kris Bryant light in Chris Taylor?

He can play anywhere, is affordable, would be a nice piece to have over a long season on injuries.

Texas ain't happening either

He wants to win not join a rebuild that I'm not sure has even started yet.

Not to mention that Arlington isn't really what many consider to be a big market either.

the Phillies and Cubs are strong possibilities.

Chicago's committed payroll for 2022 is less than $100 MM

and the disastrous Jason Heyward contract finally expires after 2023.

however the Cubs roster needs a lot of help -- not close to contention at the moment

Chris Taylor would be a fantastic addition. Diaz is our utility guy, but Taylor is better IMO.

Grienke has always considered himself more of an all around ballplayer than just a pitcher. He wants to hit.

Remember, he was a SS in HS and I can't remember if he'd already been in the majors for a while or if it was late in the minors but he wanted to quit pitching, go back to lower-class ball and come back up as a SS.
