I agree Peña is most likely your SS opening day. I'm fine with that if they can upgrade offensively at either catcher or in the OF. Tucker didn't look bad in CF so perhaps they can get a power bat RF? Meyers scares me striking out 35% of the time. That's Joey Gallo territory without the light pole power.

Leon was coming back from an injury in AAA. I think that has more to do with the results than moving up to a higher level. It was his first year playing real ball in some time. I don't think he'll be on the opening day roster, but I could see a midseason call up.

I'd rather lose to the braves than the dodgers all day and twice on Sunday

Siri & Chas both has higher K%. At least Jake showed the ability not to K so much in AAA. I would expect him to improve.

But would you turn down Kris Bryant if you could make the numbers work?

Does the looming lockout slow down or speed up free agency?

Looming lockout plays a BIG part in all of this.

I would think that would entice JV and maybe more players than usual to accept the QO.

He should be a candidate. A cheaper option that would be out of the box is OF Seiya Suzuki from Japan. He's only 27 and has been arguably the best hitter in Japan the last 3 or 4 years. He seems to fit in with our hitting approach as a guy who has some pop but also draws walks and doesn't k a ton. Obviously some risk with the transition to a new league / country, but the talent is definitely there.

Anyone know the story on these folks from G5? They showed em on the big screen last night too.

Not surprising given the tweet in the regular season thread last night, but CBS is reporting Dusty will likely be back.

He's not why we lost the WS, although I do think he lost us several regular season games. I don't hate it but I was absolutely ready for someone else.

ETA: the only source cited is Bob Nightengale so yeah this really isn't new

I don't like the idea of Dusty being back because I'm ready to for the club to take the next step in their evolution.

Dusty is a stop gap. Always was.

Let's move forward and hire our next manager who is gonna be here for the long run. We don't need a stop gap anymore.

Dusty did his job and did it well but let's move forward.

Of course not. But I don't want to go all in on him either and neglect pitching or starting SS.

We had above average production in CF after the deadline. We had plus defense all year long. I think that's a good cheap position moving forward. We need to spend on SS and/or Pitching.

Agree 100% with this. Appreciate the job Dusty did but It's time to move on with the new version of the Astros.

And really if Crane feels obligated to Dusty then tell him he can have an advisor's role.

Keep him around the organization and work with Enos Campbell and Reggie Jackson.

This way it's not looking like we're shoving him to the curb.

Anybody wonder if Lee will force his way onto the roster next season? Maybe it's a year early.

He shot his way up to sugar land this year and now is having a nice fall in Arizona.

Castro is in a contract year next year and maldy has a team option for '23, but if Lee has a fast start in sugarland next spring maybe we get a look at the future of the catcher position for us.

He just turned 24, he's often injured, seems to have a poor work ethic

Agree 100% with this. Appreciate the job Dusty did but It's time to move on with the new version of the Astros.

The logical side of me agrees with this.

The emotional part believes that Dusty deserves another shot at a ring with us. Ever since he stepped into this role in 2020, he's had our players' backs, which was extremely admirable given the circumstances.

I believe the Astros will be fine either way, but I'd do anything for him to win a WS in Houston.

We deferred some Grienke $$$, him leaving won't give us as much to spend as we think:

$62.5M deferred to 2022-2026

I truly hope the Astros manager next year is one of the following: Joe Espada or Carlos Beltran.

Fire away.

Ha. Beltran would be a giant middle finger to Manfred, I love it.

Hard to say Pedro struggled in Sugarland...he got hurt within a few weeks of being up.

I just feel like we would regret trading Siri especially when the last two major league ready players we traded exploded when they left. I think the trade piece in the OF is Chas and Siri is the #4 OF next year

How does deferred money work towards the luxury tax? I know the contract if it is back loaded doesn't change the impact because the tax uses the average...but we have never covered deferred money that I can remember

Something of note from the other thread, yall mentioned Tatis being a bad SS and thats why he played OF at the end of the season. But correct me if im wrong he was a HORRIBLE OF! It seemed like every day he was making a really bad error and costing the team. No way he can keep that up right? Could he be just a future 22yr old DH when they change the rules, making 300 mil or whatever?

If you want to play around with how much guys would cost this gives you a general idea. Correa seems reasonable but I'm surprised how low they have Baez. I'd be interested in him at that price.

Agreed. He has lead the team admirably the last 2 years, and he managed the playoff run pretty well. Still, the regular season he seemed to bumble through, eking out a playoff birth . I wouldn't mind seeing a different skipper next year.

I know you're talking about the '21 Season thread, but this thread already has over twice the number of posts and only about 400 less views as the Rangers Off-season thread and the Rangers one was started 28 days ago.

1. Altuve - 2B
2. Tucker - RF
3. Yuli - 1B
4. Alvarez - DH/LF
5. Bregman - 3B
6. Brantley / Leon - LF/DH
7. Meyers / McCormick - CF
8. Diaz / Pena
9. Maldonado / Castro

Really not they bad. Especially if Meyers takes a step forward and Tucker further becomes a star. Diaz can fill in around the diamond and give you league average while the young guys get their feet wet.
