Joey's still fighting it at the plate. Friggin' ball keeps hitting the bat! Two pop outs and a grounder so far tonight, overlooked by the rest of the world outside of Club Donkey considering Gerrit Cole had 15 strikeouts in 7 innings.

Gallo has got that average down to .201, another 0 fer or 2 and we're going to drop below the Mendoza line.

I heard from an inside source that Gallo is visiting the Children's Hospital in New York, and this is word for word a conversation he had with one of the kids:

Gallo: Hey kid. I heard you've got the Corona. What can I do to help you out?

Kid: Well, you could get me some ivermectin.

Gallo: Kid. I'm the Big Donkey, not the Big Horse. How about if I hit you a home run tonight? Will you get up and walk out of here if I hit you a home run?

Kid: Actually, I feel fine.

Gallo: Look kid, you don't have to try and act tough with me. I'll hit you two home runs tonight. Will that you get out of this hospital?

Kid: Seriously, I'm only here because the girl who sits next to me in class tested positive, so I've got to get a test before they let me back into school.

Gallo: Hey, you're twisting my arm pretty hard here kid, but let's say I hit you three home runs?

Kid: Well, statistically speaking, you really don't have to do anything. It's extremely unlikely anything will happen to me.

Gallo: Fine. Four home runs. I've never done it before, but if you get up out of that chair and walk out those doors, I'll hit you four home runs!

Kid: You can strike out for all I care. Just leave me alone.

Gallo: A strike out, huh? Yeah, I think I can manage that. If I can strike out tonight, you've got to get up and get out of this hospital.

Kid: Whatever...

Gallo: All right, you've got a deal. Now, I'm gonna go bang this nurse over in the on-call room.

Kid: Yeah, well, my mom's here now, so I'm gonna go...

Kid's Mom: Just hang here a minute Timmy, I want to go speak with that nurse over there by the on-call room...

I guess we'll find out tonight if Joey really cares about the kids or not.

15 for 112 as a Yankee (.134) with 54 strikeouts in 31 games.

At that pace, his season would be:

585 at-bats
78 hits

Here's another bit to think about when it comes to the special magnificence of Herr Gallo.

He started the season ranked 804th all-time in strikeouts.
Today, he's 506th.

He only needs 2 more to break into the top 500 of all time.

One strikeout today, and an actual home run! Joey's up to 180 on the year (whiffs that is) He's up 10 strikeouts on Chapman, no one else is within 15 of the guy. It's been a struggle, but it looks like he's headed down the stretch with the lead firmly in hand. 20 whiffs to go to 200!

BREAKING NEWS: The Donkey Rooster has struck out today, giving him 853 for his career, and moving him int the top 500 strikeout artists of all-time.

He is now tied for 497th with such legends of the game as Denis Menke, Juan Encarnacion, Randal Grichuk, Corey Hart, and Randy Velarde.

He's had 151 PAs for the Bronx Bombers. It's now 61 K's in 123 ABs. He's been remarkably consistent in striking out at that 50% clip. In his time in pinstripes he's at .130/.291/.325 and a WAR of 0.0. Fortunately for the Yankees he has a cost of $0.00.

The most shocking thing to me about that is that his WAR isn't negative.

186 strikeouts has Ser Gallohad 14 ahead of Chapman and 19 ahead of Baez. it also is tied for the 41st-most whiffs in a single season.

Eugenio Suarez has now accumulated enough at bats to qualify for the batting title; however, he has raised his average to .173 by hitting a robust .267 over the past 7 games.

A 2-26 run will tie him with Chris Davis exactly. An 0-15 run will give him the lead by percentage points.
