I've never heard Bagwell, but I'm having a hard time imagining him being good at it. He seems like he'd be more like how Chipper Jones is. With Chipper like 3 innings will go by and then out of the blue the other play by play guys will ask Chipper a direct question to get him to chime in. Otherwise he seems totally content to just sit there and watch the game and get paid without saying a single thing. There has been games where I've watched for multiple innings and then all of a sudden they bring in Chipper, and I'm like WTF, has he been here the whole time?

Exact opposite of Chipper, really good about talking about baseball and what is happening in a pitch sequence, general baseball discussion, and really in-depth knowledge and stories about baseball.
Agreed. Way more chatty than I ever imagined he would be because I also took him for more the strong silent type. Great mix of predicting sequences with historical stories and a little trash talking at fellow players and broadcast pals. He really was tremendous.

I read a rumor today about a possible in-division trade of Joey Gallo to the A's, which would allow him to be teammates with Matt Chapman. The late 80s/early 90s A's had the Bash Brothers. Could this be the creation of the Swish Brothers?

The Cubs' 'star' walked for a FOURTH STRAIGHT GAME on Wednesday, running his season total to TWELVE bases on balls. Through June 26, the guy had walked 8 times in 251 at-bats. Suddenly he thinks he's Rickey Henderson.
He's still sitting in the catbird seat with 107 strikeouts through 81 games, on pace for exactly 214. That would put him 5th all-time, just ahead of Chris Carter's 212 for the Astros that year when he just missed having 100 more strikeouts than hits (113).
Joe Rooster struck out once on Wednesday to move into a tie with Mike Moustakas on both the active and all-time leader boards with 770 strikeouts. Moustakas took 11 years to do what Joey has been able to do in 7 and change. No competition whatsoever.
I think it's high time we also start spreading the love the way of Justin Upton. Although he's hurt right now, but due back as early as Saturday, Upton is the current active leader in the majors in strikeouts with 1,915. He had a fantastic run of 11 straight years with at least 121 strikeouts before he got hurt a few years back.
At 1,915 strikeouts and only 33 years old (he'll be 34 in late August), if this guy can get healthy and stay healthy, things are going to get really exciting in the second half of the season and in the next few years to come.
Upton has 74 strikeouts in 63 games. Right now he's 1 behind Curtis Granderson for 10th place all time. After that it's a short escalator ride up through the top 10 to pass #9 Mark "The Godfather" Reynolds (1,927), #8 Willie "Call me Pops because othewise you might notice I'm morbidly obese" Stargell (1,936), and #7 Jose "I don't even have time for the number of jokes that could go here" Canseco (1,942).
if Upton gets hot down the stretch, he's only 85 strikeouts away from 2,000 - a mark only six men have reached.
If he can play 4-5 more seasons, we're talking bout getting into the stratosphere - the 2,500 club which only has two members - Mr. October Reggie Jackson, and the least-known Hall of Famer ever, Jim Thome. Thanks to the inspirational message by option short side on the top of Page 7, I'll be continuing this thread every year until either Joey retires or I die, so the long-term lens will remain focused on Justin Upton as well.

Reggie Jackson had 13 more strikeouts than hits in his career. 2597 - 2584.
Joe DiMaggio had 8 more strikeouts than home runs in his career, 369 - 361.

I can't wait to see Joey strike out against the best pitchers in the NL and really gain that national following he's earned. When you say "All-Star" I immediately think of a guy hitting .233 and on pace for 199 strikeouts. Here's hoping the Rangers' GM makes good on his recent speculation of extending Joey Gallo to stay in Texas. As an Astros' fan, I can wholeheartedly say I would love to see Joey Gallo have many more of these "All-Star" caliber seasons in the AL West.gigem1223 said:

Two in three at bats tonight, which is one less than the Rangers' hit total through seven innings. The Rangers are going to need to find a way to get a walk or another hit in the next two innings to get Gallo a fourth at bat.

Gallo's last AB was a HR. I'd say meaningless but it's not from his or the Rangers' perspective regardless of the team's results. Gallo's OPS is closing in on .900 while he tries to track down the strikeout lead. Oh boy, I just got to watch JG strike out live on TV brilliantly. He got the count to 3-1 to lure the pitcher into thinking he'd take a walk, then took back to back strikes looking to get his second whiff of the game! He's up to 107 now, Baez hasn't gotten one tonight yet. That narrows the gap to 111-107. I think you hear Joey knocking, and I think he's coming in. And he's got that pace that pace back up to 202 whiffs! He's up to 779 for his career tying him with the criminally underrated Hal McRae for 606th all time. Did it get any better than the .late 70s/early 80s Royals with Brett, McRae, and Willie Wilson, what a great group of hitters.

I think the goal (or hope, maybe) is for Gallo to break the record for Ks in a year. If not him, any of these other guys frequenting the updates getting there would be awesome, too. I think they are all below the pace, though. Secondary goal being tracked is if any can end the season with more Ks than batting average points.
The thread started as an homage to Joey breaking the season record but has blossomed to a whole open window looking out on the garden of Kmasters in the game today.
