Thanks, bro! I really appreciate the constructive commentary. You've inspired me to start having this thread every single season.

Gallo-Nauts Unite!

If you're willing to give MLB a fake email address, you can vote for Joey Gallo for the All-Star team up to 5 times per day. I have done my part today, and will continue to do so. What will be your part in this epic campaign?

https://www.mlb.com/all-star/ballot

To get you guys revved up to vote, I'm starting a grass roots movement here on TexAgs today. Here is our official artwork for the campaign.

Baez is a late scratch from the Cubs' lineup again. The official word is his thumb, but yesterday's video footage suggests it might be massive constipation or indigestion

A mid-week update on the leaderboard.

Javier Baez is up to 88 strikeouts in 67 games. That puts him on pace for 213, just 10 shy of Reynolds' all-time record.

Matt Chapman is up to 86 strikeouts in 69 games (nice). That puts him on pace for 202 strikeouts.

Joey Gallo is up to 83 strikeouts in 67 games. That puts him on pace for 201 strikeouts.

Brandon Lowe of Tampa and Eugenio Suarez of the Reds are both up to 80 strikeouts as well. Suarez continues to defy the odds of baseball, humanity, and nature by playing every day while sporting a .169 batting average.

Baez continues to hold steady at 7 walks in 217 at-bats. He is now on pace for 17 walks this season. There are 165 players in the majors who have at least 17 walks as of today.

Three guys on track for 200 strikeout seasons in the same year is absolutely epic, considering there have only been 13 200-strikeout seasons in baseball history - granted all of them in a fairly compressed time span.

If Boss Gallo can hit that magic number again, he'll be in some serious rare air, joining Mark Reynolds and Chris Davis as the only guys to reach the 200-whiff mark twice in a career. Reynolds actually has three seasons to his acclaim, 2008, 2009, 2010, while Davis did the deed in 2015 and 2016.

Joey G just missed a second season in 2017 when he struck out 196 times. Speaking of the Rooster, he's also up to 633rd all-time on the strikeout list at 755, tied with whoever the hell Gus Zernial is. Upon further review, Gus Zernial is actually the pride of Beaumont, and was a strikeout machine early in his career, leading the league with 110 in 1950 and 101 in 1951.

Next up on Joey's kill list is another Ranger great, and seriously unappreciated pro, Al Oliver, who played 18 years in the bigs, and put up an incredible 1980 season for Arlington, with 209 hits, 43 doubles, 117 RBi, and a .319 average.
He also is the father of Aggie wide receiver Aaron Oliver who gave the team a healthy dose of jack **** during his 4 years on the roster, topping out by averaging 2 catches per game in 1995.

It was weird, but I felt kind of cheated watching Gallo Fever get called out looking tonight against the Astros. I like those wild swings for third strikes. But beggars can't be choosers.

Meanwhile, Javier Baez put two more in the books to reach 90 strikeouts for the year in the Cubs' 68th game. Upped his pace to 214 on the year.

Baez be at Mark Reynolds' house right now like:

Joey G back in action tonight with an early K to get to 85 on the year! Baez already has a whiff as well and is at 91. He'll be the first to 100 it seems. C'mon Joey ol' Buddy, don't let me down!

Well Jo-Jo crew, it's been a tough week. Our Man Gallo is down to fourth in the strikeout race with "just" 86 whiffs in 66 games. Every hero needs a point in the film where his self-doubt takes over, and I'm hoping this is it for the Galloman.

It was a great week for the strikeout race in general though, as a lot of guys kept hope alive by swinging and missing at historic rates. Chief among them Cubs' supstar Javier Baez, now up to 94 whiffs on the year, He's still on pace for 214 and with the Cubs in a first-place battle with Mlwaukee - which is led by great players like That Guy and What's His Face - he should be racking up the at-bats all summer long.He also recorded a walk this week. His eighth of the year. Look out Barry Bonds! He's also pushed his way to 482nd all-time in strikeouts with 863, pushing past Pedro Guerrero and Roberto Kelly recently, next up are two of the sweetest players in MLB history - #480 Candy Maldonado and #479 CoCo Crisp.

As mentioned earlier, Matt Chapman got himself a very fashionable piece of headgear this weekend with a Golden Sombrero against the Yankees. He is the second dude to reach 90 strikeouts this year and is on pace for 203 whiffs for 2021.

Out of the ashes, Brandon Lowe of Tampa Bay has risen like the phoenix soaring over Arizona. He had 7 strikeouts in 3 days to jump past the Rooster and into third place with 88 whiffs. Pair that with a .200 batting average and you've got a superstar in the making.

Then there's the Joseph. The pace has fallen off to sub-200 strikeouts for the year. if you had told me that in April, I would have assumed you were smoking sunbutter and resin and whatever else Gerritt Cole is putting on his hands to "control" the ball. His pace is 199 coming into Sunday and I can't sort it out. It's not like the Rangers, now 25-45 and 18 games out of first, are really putting the pressure on him by winning a lot or expecting like, hits, or RBI. Maybe he's just pressing too hard because suddenly it's not just him trying to shine in Mark Reynolds' long shadow. On a positive. Joey is up to sole possession of 627th place on the all-time strikeout list with 758. Next week he's going to be running down all-time greats like Dan Wilson and Brooke Jacoby.

No update would be complete without a check-in on Eugenio Suarez, who is tearing it up with a .173 average along with his 84 strikeouts. Two of his teammates are hitting almost double his average, but Eugenio just gonna Eugenio until you take him out of the lineup or he sets the record for worst average in a 500-at bat season ever.

A new feature this week: The current All-Strikeout All-Star team!

C - Wilson Contreras, Cubs, 68 K in 209 at bats, .230 AVG
1B - Miguel Sano, Twins, 83 K in 188 AB, .181 AVG
2B = Brandon Lowe, Rays, 88 K in 240 AB, .200 AVG
3B - Matt Chapman, A's, 90 K in 241 at bats, .224 AVG
SS - Javier Baez, Cubs, 94 K in 230 at bats, .230 AVG
OF - Joey Gallo, Rangers, 86 K in 220 at bats, .214 AVG
OF - Randy Arozarena, Rays, 84 K in 264 at bats, .261 AVG
OF - Michael A. Taylor (The A is for Awesome), 79 K in 210 at bats, .233 AVG

All three of our top guys in action right now. Baez has started his night with a pair of whiffs. He's up to 97 on the year. Joey Gallo and Matt Chapman going head to head, each with a whiff in the first five innings as Rangers trying to hang tough with the A's in a 9-1 nail-biter.

And it's a slight digression from this thread but was brought up on the Astros thread regarding Gallo...

...but, Chas McCormick has 5 sac flies in 132 plate appearances this season, his first in the majors, while Gallo has 1 career sac fly in 2073 plate appearances over 7 major league seasons.

And at their current respective paces, it will take Gallo approximately 133 seasons to match Yuli Gurriel's 2021 season SF numbers.

This bears watching too.

It just blows my mind that a guy that is capable of hitting 40 home runs a season has exactly one sac fly to this point of his career. Home run hitters tend to elevate the ball so you'd think by accident he would have more than one.. Gallo seems to be a modern day Dave Kingman, lots of pop but also lots and lots of Ks and Kingman nearly averaged 5 sac flies a season.

Mike Tauchman of the Giants just concluded one of the most bizarre games of all-time.

He went 0-for-5 with 5 straight strikeouts to start the game vs. the Angels - yes that's right, the rare PLATINUM SOMBRERO. Then he hit a 3-run homer in the 13th inning, part of a 6-run frame that got the Giants a 9-3 win over the Angels.

Four strikeouts swinging, one looking. Remarkably he only left 1 runner on base in all that.

A six-pack update.
The top 6 strikeout hitters in the league: Baez, Chapman, Lowe, Gallo, Arozaena and Suarez have combined for 547 strikeouts this year in a total of 1,515 at-bats.

The entire Houston Astros roster has 544 strikeouts in 2,570 at-bats.

Let's not be too hasty. Are we sure the Rangers have had a man on third with less than two outs with Gallo at bat more than once?

I don't know if this has been posted but I was taking off from watching the Astros destroy the Tigers and watching the Will Clark/Rafael Palmiero thing on ESPN playing during the CWS rain delay and then found a recent interview where Clark clearly thinks Joey Gallo is a terrible hitter.

Brilliant game for the Rooster esta noche, 0 for 4 with 2 whiffs. Got the average down to .217.

If you're a Galloholic like me, today was absolutely brilliant. 5 plate appearances - 2 homers, 2 walks, and a strikeout. God bless him, swinging as hard as he can every time out there or being decently intelligent enough to not swing at the ones around his ear.

In the Cubs game, Javier Baez got shown up by teammate Patrick Wisdom, who had the perfect Golden Sombrero - 4 at-bats, 4 strikeouts, 3 of them caught looking. Must be weird for Baez to have all the attention on someone else for whiffing over and over again. Reminds me of the time in '05 when MLB announced a Baltimore Oriole had been busted for steroids and ol' Sammy Sosa was like "looks like mi suerte bueno has run out" only to find out it was Rafael Palmeiro instead.

Kind of funny that Bags is in the HOF and providing color commentary for the Stros on the current Detroit trip (not that steroids rule out being a talking head - ARod is fully rehabilitated in that sense) and the only play Rafael is receiving these days is from a documentary about being Will Clark's teammate at MSU during CWS rainouts.

RP's sins are similar to my Astros' transgressions - it doesn't matter how ubiquitous it is, the only sin that matters is being caught.

except there was no proof Bags ever did roids. no positive test, nothing in the Mitchell report. just rumors by ignorant media and fans. Palmeiro failed a test after telling Congress that he never took them.

Speaking of Arod, he's like Tony Romo level great at color commentary.

Infinitely more likable now than he ever was as a player and a guy who obviously loves baseball and the history of the game.

It makes his decision to keep cheating all the more puzzling to me.

Part of me also suspects this is part of his scheme to get into the hall of Fame. He watched the other cheaters go and hide after being forced into retirement, but he's out there all year long rebuilding his image.

Oof, slacking on my Gallo updates. Up with a sick kid last night/this morning.

Brandon Lowe jumped back in front of Joey for third yesterday with a hat trick.

It's now Baez 103, Chapman 99, Lowe 97, JG 96 (WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP).

Baez is still locked in on pace for 214.

Also on pace for 19 walks. If that SOB gets more than 200 strikeouts and fewer than 20 walks in the same season, they should do like they did for Roberto Clemente, bypass the 5-year mandatory, and just induct him into the Hall of Fame the day after the season ends.

Here's a little nugget I just realized about our favorite NL whiffer Eugenio Suarez by the way. He's still hitting .173 and it's almost July. The Reds have played in 76 games so his season is about half over. If he stays hititng this same horrific average, he might go over 500 at-bats and have less than 100 hits. Right now he's 48 for 277. if you double that, you're talking about 96 hits in 554 at-bats. That is so impossibly terrible, it's really hard to even look at those two numbers together.

Suarez has a WAR of -0.8, tied for 830th in the league. I value WAR about as much as I value spin rate and % of hard-hit balls, which is not at all, but something tells me that's a really bad stat to have.
