Last night, at 48 years and 19 days old, Bartolo Colón pitched a complete game for the @AcererosOficial in the @LigaMexBeis. He made 90 pitches, of which 70 were strikes.pic.twitter.com/jNWpQxVTHP

Toronto played game #64 tonight. George has played in 4 games.
he is not expected to play in the Jays' 3-game series vs. the Yankees.
so Springer will officially not reach the 100-games-played plateau in 2021

Scheduled our trip to Cleveland over July 4th weekend to watch the Astros. Will catch a Tigers- White Sox game while up there as well. Looking forward to seeing a couple of new stadiums. Anyone been to either of these?

Offensive fWAR ranks (AL):
6. Correa
7. Gurriel
12. Altuve
20. Tucker
23. Bregman
33. Yordan
40. Brantley
56. Straw
Wait, so Straw is not a below average player at the plate? Don't tell TexAgs!
No, he's still below avg by about 18%.

Colon is doing to pitch until he is 60.
I refuse to believe that Straw is 56 out of 79 regular everyday playersDeluxe said:
It's much fewer than 144 because fWAR narrows down by number of ABs. Also, generally speaking, more ABs generates a higher fWAR. Straw has gotten full time ABs, while many of the players who occupy the 144 haven't.
FWIW, in looking back at Fangraphs, it looks like only 79 position players qualified.
This clarification isn't to take away from Straw's good performance recently. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Keep in mind WAR values your defense too. And your defensive position impacts it.12law said:Farmer1906 said:12law said:Deluxe said:

There are 16 teams in the AL with at least nine hitters, which is 144 players. Being 56/144 means you're above average in my book.
Yes, I know what fWAR means and how it is calculated. I'm just saying that if Straw has fWAR that is better than the majority of players, and that makes him above average. (I guess it's more accurate to say above the median, but you get the point.)

You're a good sport TJack
Pitchers used sunscreen & rosin everyday (myself included) for control of the baseball. Other pitchers used foreign substances to enhance the spinrate. The old, "give an inch, take a mile." It went too far. This is why we can't have nice things.

Now imagine if you stepped onto a SUPER STICKY MAT and now you can run harder knowing you can plant your foot and cut on a dime with the added tack.

If you can't control the baseball throwing at max effort, you're OVERTHROWING. Take it back a notch and throw it where you know where the baseball is going.

MLB needs to make a baseball that is consistent with grip and you wouldn't have to worry about any of it.

Pitchers have to make the adjustment now and learn to pitch with just the rosin bag.

He's the Tom Brady of baseball.
Last update was a month or so ago, he's in the throwing program. Post-season is a long shot, and even if he were available, it would be as a reliever only.gigemJTH12 said:

Interesting that the Astros optioned a reliever for Lance McCullers Jr., especially given the upcoming stretch of 20 games in a row and the impending switch to a six-man rotation. They'll roll with a seven-man bullpen for now.

Dallas Keuchel starts tonight against the Rays but will make his first career start against Houston Sunday in Houston. Keuchel pitched his first 7 years with the Astros and spoke to a few of us about the return.
— Scott Merkin (@scottmerkin) June 15, 2021
Keuchel: "I don't know if it's really going to register with me until in the moment or afterwards. It's really a place I never thought I was going to leave. In all honesty, I have a lot of guys over there I have big-time admiration for, still, and I have a lot of contact with."

Keuchel was somebody I was upset that we got rid of. He could really help us now and could have helped a lot last year
