So nobody left to go after now right? So MLB will give the red sox a slap on the wrist and then sweep this under the rug just like the steroid era. Dodgers and yankess are loving this.

Blaming the whistleblower is far too popular these days. On Thursday morning, Jessica Mendoza became the latest to join the wrong side of history.
Mendoza, a former gold medalist softball player, blamed A's pitcher Mike Fiers for the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal becoming public information and the way it has "hurt the game."
"Going public, yeah," Mendoza said Thursday morning on ESPN's "Golic and Wingo" when asked if she had a problem with Fiers speaking out on the Astros cheating, while with a new team. "I mean, I get it. If you're on the Oakland A's and you're with a different team, I mean, heck yeah. You better be telling your teammates, 'Look, hey, heads up when you're pitching and you hear some noises, this is what's going on.' For sure. But to go public, yeah, it didn't sit well with me.
"And honestly, it made me sad for the sport that that's how this all got found out. I mean, this wasn't something that MLB naturally investigated or that even other teams complained about because they naturally heard about and then investigations happened. It came from within. It was a player that was a part of it, that benefitted from it in the regular season when he when a part of the team.
"And when I first heard about it, it just hits you like any teammate would. It's something that you don't do. I totally get telling your future teammates, helping them win, letting people know. But to go public with it and call them out and start all of this, it's hard to swallow."

Ideally he needs to hire the new GM and then let the GM hire the Manager. But due to the time crunch what he should do is hire Espada as an interim. Then hire the GM, who then can evaluate Espada over the season and then decide if he wants to go in a different direction or take the interim tag off.
Buck, Bruce, and Dusty will still be available next year if that is really who the new GM would want.

A couple interesting notes from the latest Section 10 (Red Sox) podcast earlier:
-Red Sox fans are about as pissed at Fiers as we are. A's go to Fenway August 14-16.
-Passan was on with them for about 10 minutes. He said he's expecting the Red Sox to receive punishment similar to the Astros (max fine and two years of lost draft picks). Just thinks the real crime is disobeying the commissioner. He also doesn't think the MLB will conduct any further investigations unless there's media reports that can't be ignored. Sad.
Passan has been pretty plugged in with the commish office over the past few months so it's likely he's got some inside info. Just thought I'd post.
It just seems like such an inept long term strategy to me. MLB has an opportunity right now to clean it up once and for all. Instead they're just going to ride along and be reactive as more reports eventually trickle out. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but the further we get away from this, the more guys will become disgruntled with former teams, or have conscience clearing moments, or whatever the case may be, and decide to call Evan Drellich and open the lid on more allegations. This strategy just seems to unnecessarily keep the problem lingering into perpetuity.iBrad said:
So from MLB's perspective, "We know other teams were doing it and have been told as much by the Astros and players around the league, but unless the media makes a big deal out of it, our heads are in the sand. This isn't about fairness. It's about public perception. We've crucified our scapegoat and will be moving on unless the need to respond to additional accusations, that we are already aware of internally, arise."
